Maybe because their crest feathers taste betterOne of your peahens is feather picking the others. Didn't you say the tame hen you have liked to pick at Emerald's crest? If you watch them for a bit you might be able to catch who is the culprit.
If they have somewhere to get away from each other the less dominant birds should still be able to keep their crest. The only time I had one lose a crest was when Ice was sitting on a nest and someone thought it would be funny to peck off her crest.![]()
Evidently India Blue peafowl varieties sometimes enjoy feather picking at green peafowl - Josh says the first birds to get feather picked in a mixed pen are usually the greens.
