Show off your Peas!

hey everyone..its been a rough couple of months for me....i am downsizing the flock to about ten percent...currently we have close to 750 birds....all the peafowl will be going to someone or freezer camp....willing to give them away at what i have paid...please pm me...whites, ib, purple, pied, and silver pieds....i will be moving for a short period of time...and when the time comes...if they have homes then they do....if not....so hard for me to say but....yeah...not good

Birdman, it makes me sad to hear of your bad news. I can't imagine what's going through your mind at this time. I wish you the best of luck in the coming future and I'm sure you and your flock will be back on your feet in a matter of time! You are in my prayers.

At what point can you tell for a IB BS it's gender? I let momma and her babes out a bit today since we've had a touch of dry weather. She didn't leave the concrete with them and after a little sunshine she returned them to the garage kennel/brooder. During that time the others had to inspect and strut their stuff which was so funny because the bitty BS a started displaying!! I thought because it is yellow that meant it was a female BS. Is that not how that works?? It's just shy of 2 weeks old.

Nice pictures!

No, that's not how Black Shoulder works.

I see 2 chicks with momma, the brown one is an India Blue and the Yellow one is a Black Shoulder. All BS chicks male & female are yellow to start and they gradually darken, females stop when they are a Salt and Pepper color and males continue to get darker until they have virtually no light colored plumage at all.
Both of your chicks are too young to sex with any accuracy yet. Usually 6-8 weeks and you can tell, but occasionally they can fool you.

Ok. Thank you for clarifying that for me. I've only ever had adult & juveniles so I wasn't sure. My luck is they're all males! Lol! Chickens, ducks..doesn't matter I end up with boys! Story of my life. .I have 4 human boys too..no girls! ;)
