Hey there... question... at what age would a male begin fanning? Not just the sort of fanning I've seen all my juveniles do when they get excited, but standing in place for 5-10 minutes and turning? One of my whites (the large, masculine looking one) has begun doing this quite often. I've been thinking for a while that I have a little boy just because he's so much bigger than his sister or mama, but this behavior is definitely very different from what I've seen the other young peas do. They're just shy of ten months.

I would say 2 years old is when they actually fan to try and get a hen. My White peacock is only 2 years old and he's bred 3 peahens successfully. Waiting for the fourth hen to lay. If you wish I can help you sex the White peacock or peahen you have. Just get good quality photos that can show good detail on the neck feathers.

Those are Spaldings. Java Greens is a specific sub species of Green peafowl. There are photos of Java Greens also known as Pavo muticus muticus on Rocking B-A-B Ranches website if you want to see what Java Greens look like.

Thank you, good photos are easy when the subject matter is a Peacock! These guys are both spaldings, and I am especially fond of them, both are very tame. Chirpie imprinted on me and Diva was raised by Blue Creek and she had to be darn near imprinted on him. It's nice to go into a pen and have the birds not even get nervous that you are there.

Great pictures of them! Diva sure was imprinted on me! Her as well as the Purple Pied Spalding hen would fly onto my shoulder to nap when they were small enough. I do miss her, but I'm glad she has such a wonderful home!

And see, all I know about are the ones I own.

I know that when the man that had all mine died the spaldings and Javas were the first to go according to the person that I got mine from. He said they were a more nervous and aggressive bird so he let those go first. That is good because I am not sure I would have wanted them like that. All I know are the India Blues and mine are very nice to deal with. Maybe I will one day learn more about the others.
I am glad to know they can imprint and be more friendly. I need to get over here more often and read more about them.
