Penedesencas do ok in the heat? I'm going to look into them, thanks!

We had the Aussies because of the heat and I expected them to be heavy when I picked them up based on size. They really didn't weigh more than my hatchery girls and had a LOT of feathers. Must have taken after the Orpington side of the family.
That happens if you get show quality BAs.

Penedesenca are listed as being ultra heat hardy. They do not spread their wings until it gets over 95 or so. Orps will start doing this at 80. I had an Heritage RIR have heat stroke! I never had a problem with the Penedesencas. I did have Marans die in the heat though.

Hi everybody. Lost 2 chickens to heat this weekend so wasn't feeling too social and cried a lot. Hubs bbq'd steak and mushrooms to make me feel better :lovewe had the salad with. I hardboiled some eggs for a quick breakfast and I liked the way they looked in the bowl with low light so took a snap of those. Yea, I'm a geek. I've discovered that a dash of cinnamon on a banana with vanilla yogurt is quite good. Last snaps are fettuccine alfredo with bbq chicken thighs, done the night before with the steak. I found a honeydew that was bee kissed so it's sweet and juicy.

I'm going to get caught up now, have a great day everyone:frow
It all looks good.
Sorry to hear about your losses.

Thanks @ronott1
My Aussies that died were breeder birds, my hatchery Aussie is a little trooper though. Hubs isn't fond of the NN appearance so I'll be sure to show him the Penedesencas. I've got some time to look around and see what's out there. Really appreciate the info, it'll help a lot :highfive:

When I had to give up most of my hens last year I lost the penedesencas--They were older. I will be looking for some this coming spring. I really like them and their dark eggs

Yesterdays breakfast and dinner. DW always makes some fantastic chow, especially on weekends, or when Grandchildren are over. :thumbsup

Assorted lunch meat with EGGS:drool,,,,,, and Tater Tots. Toasted bun with Apricot jam. The small dark round thingies:gig,,,,,,, Stick sausage we snack on usually cold when just relaxing with a snack. They are seasoned deliciously. Similar to Slim Jims, but from the deli store made fresh, and not as spicy.

Dinner; Chicken sliced/chopped in Mushroom gravy. Cucumbers with sour cream dressing. Mashed potatoes. Those slight specs on potatoes are not a result of caveman improperly peeling the tatos. :gig Besides Butter, and Sour Cream, added some Artichoke and Spinach Dip. :drool Then smashed the whole concoction. I like to use the masher to place my desired quantity onto plate. :)
Cranberries are not only for Thanksgiving with turkey. I like the whole berry type, but Jellied is fine also. Assorted veggies. These are frozen, and steamed. Fast,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ready in no time. Washed down with a tall cool glass of Moo Juice.
