I tried it with decaf, and it was a no. The batch with brown sugar was also not quite right.
2 1/2 cups fresh strong coffee
4 cups of granulated sugar
2 1/4 cups rum
One vanilla been cut into thirds.
Dissolve the sugar in the hot coffee, and cool to room temperature (so you don’t kill the alcohol!).
Add the rum, and the cut vanilla bean.
Store for about a month. For best flavor, let it sit for several months. Three is good. Six is the ultimate.
You don’t have to shake it, but I make coffee liqueur and vanilla extract (which can be made with rum, whiskey or vodka) at the same time, so I shake the Kahlua when I shake the extract.
