I am in the same place as you. I can say I hate the injuries, but also some of my best breeders, and my nicest looking youngsters are vaulted.

On a side note I just had 4 sgs hatch while I was sleeping last night! 2 lavenders and two black splits!

About half of my silkies and showgirls have vaulted skulls, and in my own flock, these have the best crests. I have and have had a LOT with vaulted skulls, but only one with a problem. I'm sure she hit her head or someone pecked her. She had very bad crook neck and was "star gazing," but careful attention and Vitamin E brought her out of it--didn't know about Prednisone at that time. She had no further problems, though it took a couple of months. I didn't have to isolate her, as the others were solicitous of her and appeared very concerned. I did have to force feed her for awhile, as she couldn't control her neck and walked backwards. After she improved some, I'd carefully straighten her neck and place her head in the feed pan--she ate hungrily. At least six months later I sold her at a very low price to a young girl who is quite a showman, carefully telling her of the problem she'd had. She recently won grand champion of a show, making her owner very, very happy.

My one and only lavender showgirl has a vaulted skull, and is apparently a pullet! She's three months old now, and her crest is so large it almost covers her eyes. Wish I could post pics, but still don't have my problem solved.

I know people who stack extra eggs either between the others, or along the sides. This seems to work well for them. There are usually a few that don't develop, and the extras can then be place in their spots. I've seen pictures of jamb-packed incubators.
