Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

Question... Do showgirls grow / much like a silkie? Was wondering when i should be expecting comb/wattle development ...hoping my two are girls... But wouldnt be suprise if i get a roo... ( thats just my luck)
So far with my 6 week olds, 1 SG and the rest Silkies, you wouldn't be able to tell the difference if Lazer had feathers on his neck! He's the same size as the Silkies, and the comb development seems to be the same as well.

I am by no means an expert, but my Silkies and SG's all seem to develop around the same rate...although the smaller they are the feistier they seem to be!

Having a horrible time hatching out Showgirls! I can hatch the Silkies..what's up with that? If I notice that one has pipped at the wrong end..high vaulted head..then I will help it out, that one makes it, but if the others don't pip..that's that!

Have you tried setting them upright and not turning them for about a week? It gives the air cell time to develop more, and in the rounded end. Especially with shipped eggs, this helps. Put them in the bator, pointy end down, and turn on the bator, but not the turner. Let them incubate like that for a week give or take a day, then turn on the turner. Do you have an auto turner, or do you turn by hand?

Wow, haven't tried that. I do have the turner. I am going to give this a try..anything! Thank you Debbi. :))

...I'm going to try that to! Thank you so much for the tip, Debbi! Although now I'm having some concerns since my broody has been sitting on 3 of my SG's eggs for 23 days now. The ones that I incubated were all very much alive when they went into lockdown...so frustrating!

OOOOOO!!! UBER EXCITED!!! Weezy, my broody little SG hen, hatched out a baby during the night!! WOO-HOO!

She succeeded where my incubating skills failed - gotta love those broodies! It's a silkie, which is awesome even though Mom and Dad are both SGs (bowtie) and it is black and white...hmmm...the parents are both black....(where's the milk man???)

I'm having a horrible time concentrating at work...can't wait to see if any more have hatched when I get home. She laid the remaining 2 eggs during the week, so who knows whats goin' on with them.

Happy day!!
