Showgirl thread- for posting pictures and discussing breed!

OOOOOO!!! UBER EXCITED!!! Weezy, my broody little SG hen, hatched out a baby during the night!! WOO-HOO!

She succeeded where my incubating skills failed - gotta love those broodies! It's a silkie, which is awesome even though Mom and Dad are both SGs (bowtie) and it is black and white...hmmm...the parents are both black....(where's the milk man???)

I'm having a horrible time concentrating at work...can't wait to see if any more have hatched when I get home. She laid the remaining 2 eggs during the week, so who knows whats goin' on with them.

Happy day!!
Congrats!! Love those good mamas!! Are you sure you have two Blacks, or are they really dark Blues? Sounds to me like that chick may be a Splash, and you could get that color if both parents were Blues. Or is the chick mostly black with some white on it? That one stumps me as I reread your post. You should post some pics when you can. FYI, don't get your face too close to that little prize, Mama will take your nose off! Ask me how I know!!

Hopefully, the other two will hatch, and be Showgirls for you!

OOO! Blues would be the answer! And splashes would be DANDY! The only other chick that I have from this pair is a black (blue??) SG...I'll have to get pix of her, too. Here are the only 2 pix that I have of George and Weezy here at my office - blues? blacks? I'm such a noob!

In that second pic, they both look blue to me. The first one of the hen looks like she could be black with sunburnt feathers? Pull back the feathers on the body and see what the under color looks like. Can't wait to see the baby!

Question: So can you show a showgirl silkie and get best of breed etc?

Sure you can show them under AOV(all other variety) and they will compete against all other non-standards(i,e, porcelain, paint) Since they are not recognized, they cannot win Best of Breed...................Here is Gisele, my lovely girl..........

Just PM me..

Also just want to let you know that I've been noticing that the membrane under the shell of the eggs has been very strong, and I've had to help the chicks out. this is after they have piped around the egg. Had a few suffocate because of it.. So Sad

to find the little thing worked so hard to get out and not be able to push the shell away.

Don't know if this is a feed issue or incubation. so just be watchful of your hatch day.

Here's the little cutie that was hatched out this am/late last night. He/she has white around it's wings along with the white spotting...ideas on color?? Upon closer examination I'm gonna guess that George, the roo, is the blue. Weezy is black all the way to the base of her feathers while George has graying with very sporadic white at the base of his feathers on his chest and bowtie. Does that sound about right? Black and blue is still a mystery to me - tough when it isn't pointed out to me in person, but I'm getting there! In the meantime, this little one is already madly adored!!

I can see why this baby is adored! It's adorable! :)) Very pretty coloring!

Here are some pictures of my showgirl. She is getting bigger. Any idea as to the sex? Almost 8 weeks

Ok, this is hard to explain. There is a little stick em up piece of comb on the very top, it does't
show in the picture. I was thinking, boys have the bumps, not the stick up bit of comb?

A bit of a side view

Going to be a very pretty "girl" :p
