Hi there,

I’ve got a sick hen and I have no idea what might be wrong with her.
Her tail is down, she has abnormal poop (some very water and or pure liquid and some solid but grey in colour), very lethargic, she usually always runs away from me but now she just lets me grab her without trying to escape. She is still eating and drinking though.
She’s over 24 weeks old and have never laid an egg, so I don’t know if that matters. I had her on grower feed for a long time but I did switch her to layer a while back, could that have something to do with it?
Sorry I don’t have a picture of the watery poop or the more abnormal poop, I know the pictures look fairly normal but I will try and get one if it happens again.
Any ideas would be appropriated!

I think it might be coccidiosis based on stance and abnormal poop. If the poop is watery and green and white, or bloody we found our culprit. My hen Liz had that and we treated it with corid. Its good she’s eating and drinking. @Eggcessive thoughts?

Her comb appears red, as if she lays or is ready to lay eggs. Has it been like that long? Do you have others like her who are already laying? How does her lower belly look to you—is it enlarged or fuller than the others? Can you insert a clean finger inside her vent about 2 inches to feel for an egg? I would observe her to make sure that her crop is emptying overnight by early morning, and make sure that she is drinking and eating enough. Have you wormed them lately?

Yeah her comb has been red for a while. I don’t have any at all like her, I took her in for a friend. I’ll feel her belly when I get home for sure. I added corid to her water now and have ordered some dewormer last night to treat everyone for that for good measure. Also her poop was green just before I left. But again it doesn’t look that off.

How much corid, it’s 1.5 tsp per gallon for five days, then 1/3 tsp for 7-14 more days. That’s for powder dose
