Sick Chicken

How is the flock today? My flock loves dampened feed. Just a bit of water in feed I put in a tub. Really gets them eating. Most birds love wet food.

Go easy on the olive oil...it is hard to digest and not good for crops.

Keep us posted! :-)

Hi! Thank you. I did the olive oil bread just once. One seems to be doing much better. Not sure of the other one yet. I did notice today that some of the other chickens droppings had roundworms in them:( Rough week. I've never delt with any of this before so I'm super stressed out! I put Wazine in a gallon of water for both flocks. Not sure if I can mix it with the sick chickens antibiotics. Not sure when to retreat either. They are all free range. Oh boy...

I usually don't do two drugs at one time, BUT...if the sickness's are bad enough, I do.

However I don't mix them all into the same water, and you can't have two separate waterers going at the same time.

You might go to Tractor Supply and get some Safeguard Liquid Goat wormer and an empty 3ml syringe, no needle. This stuff kills all worms unlike Wazine. And stopping the antibiotics right now is not a good idea. If you don't have a TSC around, you can even use the Safeguard Equine Paste you can get at Walmart. Either of these are given orally down the throat to each bird and this way you can still use the antibiotic water.

For the Liquid Goat Wormer: 1/2 ml for most large breeds around 6 to 7 pounds, in a syringe under the tongue once a day for 3 to 5 days. 1/4 ml for Bantams, same time frame.

The Paste: give a pea sized dolup to most large breeds once a day for 3 to 5 days. 1/2 this for Bantams. You can either put it on a piece of bread or directly in the mouth. My birds are "hip" to anything on a piece of bread, LOL, so you might just squeeze it in the mouth.

Thank you! If I gave Wazine to the others do I need to wait 7-10 days to give them safeguard? I will definitely do that for the sick ones. My birds will also eat anything on bread I'm sure they live bread! You've been an enormous help!!

If you only started the wazine today, I would go ahead and treat now the with the safeguard, at least the ones on antibiotics. It won't hurt them. If they have been treated with the Wazine days ago, yes, just wait 7 to 10 days and offer up the Safeguard. I try not to over medicate with things, but if birds are really sick and especially if they are really ill, I will sometimes double up on things if I think they can handle it so I don't lose them.

Awesome! I will go ahead and treat them all to make sure that they got it.
