Hoping for some help.
This morning, I found a sickly hen in my coop of 6 hens.
She is:
Plymouth Barred Rock
6 months old
Probably laying
I *think* she feels thinner and lighter than the others.
Lethargic - doesn't respond much to touch & handling (Just opens eyes), sleeping, not standing at all.
Wet messy brown on her bum feathers, but not ALOT
Symptoms noticed this morning (4 hours ago)
No interest in food and water
No sign of injury
Palpated her body with my inexperienced hands - I THINK her crop is empty and I don't feel an egg.
Also probed a bit in her vent, felt nothing that seemed unusual.
Gave her a warm bum bath and have placed her in a small cage inside my house for warmth & isolation.
If I have to take her to a vet, I will, but I would like to try to handle this at home for now.
They have a spacious coop with pine shavings, an outdoor dirt run, and 1-2 hours a day running around my back yard. I clipped wings a few weeks ago with no troubles.
Inside she is now in a cat carrier with towels, water, food.
