Sick SLW- 7 months old- nothing is helping

Glad to hear Velma is doing better. Sorry to hear shes having seizures. At this point is she on any medications? Its a possibility that could cause that. Hopefully she stops having them.

Otherwise she does sound like she is slowly getting better. Velma is lucky to have you. :)

As for Baytril, hopefully someone can give you the dose information.

Hang in there, your doing great. Its exhausting. Try to get rest.

Thank you for your kind words. I am trying to get as much rest as possible throughout the days and nights, but it is hard when you have a lot going on. After this week, things will get a little smoother for our household. School will be out for a month! Thank goodness too! lol

No, she is not currently on any medications, but I am still mixing the vitamins and probio's in her water per directions and not a pinch more. Over dosing on medications can give an animal seizures, but she is not on any so I am not sure as the cause. The intensity of them does seem to be decreasing though. I guess it's another mystery of Velma. Maybe it was all the medications she was on, but I would think that they have left her little system by now and shouldn't be causing this. I am not sure though...

Have a great evening pwand!

I am most sorry for not updating. Things have been busy needless to say. Trying to get things in order for Christmas, finals for school and still treating my Velma. Velma is still ALIVE! I am so thankful, too. We had a very rough week last week and throughout this past weekend, but this week she seems to be showing signs of improvement, although her weight gain is not as much as I'd hoped for by now with the tube feeding. She now eats and drinks a little on her own and is more vocal. I have cut back the tube feeding to every 8 hours and the swelling around her eye seems to be going down. She is now keeping the one "gimp" eye open more and more everyday! All of which I take as good signs. However, I am concerned about her partial seizures. She seems to have these early in the morning (right before her early morning tube feeding). This consists of one of her wings flapping a bit, head twitching, and then she flops down on her other side at an angle. She will stay like this until her partial seizure is over with. This I do not take as a good sign. Do any of you know what could be causing this. I have read up on them and they can be caused by too much heat, being too hot, and dehydration, which I do not think she is because of the tube feeding. I have moved her out to our garage and have moved the heat lamp up a little higher and no improvement with the seizures. Any ideas? I hope to receive the Baytril I ordered today or tomorrow. Before I go researching do any of you know the dosage? If not I will do a quick search and I'm sure I will get the information I need. Thank you all for your thoughts for Velma! She truly is a lucky gal thus far! I think it is a little crazy how one bird can affect one's life as she has done for me. She is a trooper and I can only hope that she gets stronger and stronger everyday and heals from this illness. My other girls are still showing no signs of sickness, which I am very grateful for as well. I hope you both have a wonderful day as I hope to and thank you once again for your thoughts and concerns for my very little Velma!
I'm glad that Velma is doing okay, but the seizures are a little worrisome, I'm sure. Do you know the strength of your Baytril that is coming--it is injectable or oral? Casportpony has most of the dosages. I've never used it. We realize you are busy, but whenever you can find time, give us a little update and maybe a picture. It's great that your other birds are doing well with no symptoms. Take care.

I found a thread about the dosage for Baytril. Kathy has some info on dosage. Hope this helps.

Medication can stay in their systems quite a few days later, i am thinking maybe up to a couple of weeks.

It will be great to be finished school. Your in need of a well deserved break. :)

Have a good evening. Snoozzzzzeeeee.

I've now had vets prescribe the following:

  • 15mg/kg once a day for 5 days
  • 20mg/kg once a day for 5 days
  • 10mg/kg twice a day for 5 days

Just wanted to share a quick YES with you all! Velma has been "wing" seizure free today. YES!!! I have stayed home all day today and have kept her by my side watching her like crazy and no seizure as of yet! Still a little twitching of the head, but even this is improving. Now, to get some meat back on her bones is the only hump left I believe. I couldn't be happier for her! One last final to go tomorrow! Yippie! lol have a good afternoon everyone!
