Wisher, your first thought was correct. Even a simpleton (trust me I have upon occasion been one) doesn't say that to a date.

Well, he's 6'2, but skinny as a rail. And a jerk, as you guys had mentioned. He had the gall after saying he didn't care for me (over text, no less!) to send me a big happy smilie, as if he expected me to be oK with all of this!
I'm going to have a good time whether he likes me or not. I'm going to do up my hair and put on my makeup and paint my nails and dance and chatter. And hit him over the head with my bucket. Or I could dance with him and stomp on all of his toes.

I'll be OK... it hurt, as I've had a crush on this guy for a few months, but I'll get over it and find someone better and more chicken-loving and maybe even ginger.

Being married to a person that can be a real jerk, and having experienced more than my share of jerkish moments, I can see that this clown may have thought he was being honest, upfront, and even somehow nice, by not leading you on and letting you get your hopes up. Yeah, I live with people who really can be that clueless.

All I can say is, at least you know where you stand (or maybe, don't) with him.

, the thing about crushes is they are really not about the person at all, they are us, putting our ideals and impressions on that other person. I have found that one of the best ways to kill a crush is to actually get to know the person - sadly, people seldom are what we imagine them to be.

Tani - Text him back and say that it's okay, you were just wanting someone to go with so you wouldn't be "dateless" and since he didn't have a date either it only made sense. Explain that you don't want to "go out" with him, either and that it is good that you both agree that it will not go any further after tonight. Actually, you are rather relieved, you were worried that he might think you wanted to date him regularly, but now you both can just have a good time and not worry about having to let the other one down.

When I went to pick Baby

up at the dance yesterday, I went to the door of the cafeteria and peered into the room. The principal asked me who I was looking for. When I told her, she gestured in a certain direction and , sure enough, there was Baby

, about 10 feet away and walking toward me. Baby

dropped a drink can into the trash can nearby, looked right at me in the doorway, and walked away. She didn't see me! Evidently, we Pookas are having trouble "poofing out" again.
