Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

I found a show near me next month. This would be my first show, I assumed you took the birds to the vet and had them tested. I've learned that isn't the case. How do you get them tested before shows? Thank you!

You need to call the IA board of animal health and see who is certified to test for PT in your area. Then you call around and see who can test your birds. You will need a numbered wing or leg band on the birds. It depends on the individual what they charge for testing. Guessing its the Avoca show?

Yes, the avoca show! Its proving to be very difficult. Thank you for your help!

I know from experience that most people up here get themselves certified so they can test their birds and not have the hassle of trying to hire someone. Its a simple test and requires just a drop of blood mixed with antigen. You need to call Dr. David Schmitt @ 515-281-8601 to find out who tests in your area.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! I've been sending emails all over the place with no response so you have been so helpful. I really appreciate it!
Are you going to the show? I have to say I'm really, really nervous!

Unfortunately I have to work that weekend (Mother's day?)... Its a nice small show and from what I've heard, they have a lot of activities for kids there too. My friend Ken Splett from SD will most likely be there with some of his silkies. He's a super nice guy, so if you have any questions just tell him that Amy sent you.

Thank you so much! Im thinking I probably won't get them tested before the show, but I hope to attend anyway for the experience!
Are you Amy Jo Piel? A bit of a long shot and a little random, I ask because I purchased a couple of pairs at the Waverly swap and I have had a handful of people ask me if I got them from that name? I hadn't, but now I hope to find her!
