Silkie breeding, genetics & showing

Well, good job and congrats! Those are BIG birds!! I see Parelli in your name... might you be a fan of Pat?? I took lessons straight from Pat years ago back before he became such a big international star. I break all of my own babies using Parelli and a combination of Lyons (because I looooove him too!) teachings. Of course, Pat has a pretty darned good system, so most of my ground work is his. It doesn't say where you live-- but are you in Colorado near him? And welcome to the thread! I didn't read back to catch up on the postings... I better check back.

I was thinking the same thing! The name Parelli jumped out at me too....love it.

So we are back from our show this weekend! We cooped in on Friday night and then the show was on Saturday. Had a great time, met up with some silkie people and other friends of mine that show Rosecombs.

My son won Reserve Grand Champion Featherleg with his Splash Pullet.

Congratulation to your son, your girl and of course to you!!!!!
I hope you are feeling better from your car accident and glad you are back showing!
Your son seems so happy and proud!

Really great photos of your son! Love that girl! She is fabulous!! Big congratulations!! I may have to break down and show some day. :D

Congratulations Colter and Hawkeye Silkies!!!!!..I havent been here for a bit so was reading thru the posts...as to maturity of show birds I never have a cockerel who can show much before 7 or 8 months they just take a while to mature and some are not showable till in their first year...as for pullets youngest we ever showed was 4 1/2 months and she won over 800 other jr birds but she is a rarity....in her first year as a hen she has won numerous times again.....some of the older girls as in 3 plus just are superb to show and others after their pullet year lose that bloom....a pullet who was 6 months old won Jr show champion over 800 birds this year for my son but i have others who are looking better now so just go by how they look to you.....Janine congrats on your birds at the Virginia show they look great!....we have our last show this weekend and then we start feeding the stock up for March breeding season ....so last time washing and grooming chickens till next May.
