slow reply sorry, had to catch up on work and coo over chicks!
8 still doing great with Margaret Hatcher, their silkie surrogate mum.
Ruby I dont think I will be much of a comparison, I'm down to 2 developing eggs. both have stable aircells now not jiggly now, but 1 is very misshaped, comes a long way down the side as well as the egg top.
these were upright for 6 days, with tilting starting after 3, then under Margaret for 3 while the others hatched, then back in incubator and being tilted. i've decided to keep tilting to day 18, mainly to help the chick with the poor air cell move in the shell.
So sorry to hear about your partridge and porcelain.

I was actually wrong. I still have one porcelain egg! I thought the breeder wrote "paint" (it's small cursive writing at the end of the shell) but it's "porc"! That egg is exactly like the one you're describing. I should snap a pic later, as I traced the air cell. It starts in the fat end of the egg but then turns and goes about 3/4 the way down the egg, almost to the pointy end. The dip near the pointy end is loose and it looks like fluid is in there but it could just be the cell jiggling, I guess. I fully plan on intervening if they egg manages to internally pip!! I can work with internal pips. What gets me is when fully formed chicks die without ever getting that far. I really hope you get at least one to hatch, if not both!! :fl

Hi, can I join? I have two silkie eggs on day 17 and 19 more on day 14. All are shipped eggs and were purchased from two different Ebay sellers. This is my first ever incubating/hatching experience and I've spent most of my time throughout the last several weeks lurking on these forums.
I am beside myself with excitement for the upcoming hatch!!!!!!!!! I figure it might help to join a hatch-a-long to make time pass more quickly!!!

Hatching is so much fun!! I have some silkie mix eggs in the incubator also. Hatch-a-longs are a ton of fun, but time still seems to pass so slow! Lol.

Awesome. What kind of incubator are you using? I hope you get 2 great hatches!!

Hi Rosyamanda,

Im at day 15, so we are tracking closely, hope yours develop well.

Ruby,
You may have said this and I am forgetting but have you hatched shipped eggs with a bad aircell before. Do you candle every 6 hours or so to look for the internal pip? Is it obvious with these wild air cells? Is it just the one with a bad air cell? If so its very unfair that its your porcelain?

I love Silkies :D Hatched 5 last month 3 Black, 1 Partridge and 1 White from an overall poor hatch my 1st time incubating only had 8/24 hatch and 1 died at a few days old and my 2 precious Paint silkies dead in their eggs :( I set 12 more eggs late July 6 Miniature Paint (micro bantams) from a paint to paint breeding and 6 mixed Silkie Bantam eggs (I'm in the UK we have large fowl Silkies here) possible colours from those eggs are Black, Gold, Paint and Partridge :) I'm on day 18 now about to lockdown I have 10 out of 12 left... 1 of the mini paint eggs was infertile and another quit around day 3-4... The aircells in the remaining 4 mini paint eggs are very misshapen so I'm hatching them upright the 6 mixed Silkie eggs have very good aircells so will be hatched laying down getting excited for my eggs hatching now... I'm on the August hatch a long but thought I'd join here too cuz I love Silkies!! :D

Hi Ciryluk3g,

10 out of 12 sounds good, will be thinking of you so please keep us updated. Fingers and toes crossed particularly for your mini paints. Did you decide what caused trouble last time?
How big do the large fowl silkies get?

I have hatched lots of shipped eggs but until now, I've been very fortunate. I've always had ok to good air cells on my shipped eggs. I only had one egg with a saddle shaped air cell before and it failed to internally pip. Upon eggtopsy it had a very vaulted skull so I'm not sure if that was the issue as it was purebred silkie. During lockdown and right before internal pip, the air cell draws down and takes up about 2/3 of the egg. I plan on tracing the air cell after this draw down happens and assisting any eggs that seem to have trouble zipping. I'm nervous with this batch too! Lots of candling at the end!

great! Good luck with your hatch! I just put my two at day 18 into lockdown....so excited!!! Since I have a staggered hatch, my day 15 eggs are essentially getting locked down early but hopefully they'll be fine. I've heard a lot about turning after day 14 being unnecessary so I'm kind of counting on that being true!!!

I just started a staggered hatch too. I added 3 quail eggs to my silkies. So they will be 3 days behind also. I'm hoping that locking down those eggs 3 days early will be ok too! Good luck on the eggs. Update as soon as you get your first pip!
