Silkie Hatch-A-Long

I think that we are maybe done until the next batch

(Partridge Silkie Eggs) due in a few weeks. These are the chicks born yesterday 3-20-2014. Out of 15 eggs from Kentucky; 7 hatched. Out of 6 eggs from Georgia; 5 hatched. Who can figure? All were in the same incubator. It seems kind of strange as the Kentucky eggs were here in 1 day while those from Georgia took 2 days. I guess that you never know what happens on the way with USPS.

I still have 5 eggs in the incubator but am fairly sure that 4 are dead. Thought that the one might be hatched by this morning but nothing. I'll probably give them another day.

Everyone hatched seems fine and healthy. The very tall reddish tinged Showgirl was the only one to require any assistance. I think that its positioning was off inside the egg. It was starting to shrink wrap, so I kept it covered with a damp papertowel and kept chipping away at the egg and gave it Gatorade with an eyedropper. His/Her name is "Kappa" because of spending several hours in a bowl in the incubator.

Wishing everyone else a successful hatch!!

Kelly
