How to swaps work? We don't have them over here. I'm guessing you take your birds and well...swap them for others?

It's my first time going to a swap. Yes, it's swap, & sell animals so yeah that's how it works.

I've had people wanting my Silkie chicks already so I've had to decide today which two I want to keep out of 17

Hard decision but I have chosen these two babies!

I'm just anxious to see what their crests turn out like.

It'll be cute, once they do show how fluffy they may get.

They seem like a good place for taking birds like excess roosters!

They may well end up having a crest like hers, I will keep taking updated photos of them every week or so. I'm looking forward to their crests appearing though, just hoping they are poofy!

Lovely looking babies, even in their “ugly” stage. Is it really as hard to sex Silkies as people say?

It's such a difficult choice on which to keep, especially at such a young age.

Yes, sexing Silkies is pretty difficult. Their combs develop much later than what most Chicken breeds do but there is always some exceptions. In general, they are slow at maturing.

I have chicks that act like males one day by chest bumping and pecking me, then the next they seem more like a female!

Lovely birds, just a pain to know their sex for sure at a young age.

I was able to feather sex my Silkie chicks at a day old. I sexed them as 3 pullets, & 2 roos. I was correct. With my White Silkies anyways. The Partridge Silkie is still questionable, my black, & the porcelain are roos though.

I did have a look at my chicks feathering but they pretty much just developed in order of who hatched first. Non were particularly more developed or had longer feathers. The first hatched had the most where as the last hatched had the least we done feather sexing on some of our other breeds before with success but not my Silkies. They're a pain...but still lovely!

All of my whites developed quickly compared to my partridges though. The partridges are tiny and have hardly any feather development. Maybe that's something to do with the colour.
