Silkie paralyzed, better again. *Sad update Pg.10*

I won't disappear.

She's the same, I just gave her more water. I can't keep the water in there yet, she still tends to fall now then, she catches herself but still.

Still doing better, watching me as I come and go to do her food and water, making her little noises.

She's better as of yesterday, walking, wanting out of her box.

Thanks all for the help.

I'm glad it wasn't anything but a possible head bump or ear infection. I was really worried about it being Marek's, I'll still keep watching but I think we're safe.

She was better, walking, eating, drinking like a completely normal Silkie. She's been back with her friends since, no problems until yesterday.

She can't even stand this morning, yesterday she was acting like she was nearsighted, now she's gone way down hill again. The same thing she had at the first page, what could do this? Please tell me it isn't Marek's.

i would restart the vitamins and bring her in of course- she may have a chronic problem with this and possibly be better as a house chicken

She's in and I have attempted to get her to drink vitamin water. She's worse this time than the last and she was doing so well. I'm gonna try again to get her to drink, then force a bit if she won't.

Thanks again for helping Artsyrobin.

i'm thinking whatever caused it to begin with may have reasserted itself- possibly keeping her in a stress free environment can help- i have a cochin that has chronic gurgling- when she is stressed it resurfaces- so she is now a house chicken- so possibly she may need the stress free living in the house- hoping here

I'll try again, I already have one house chicken, what's another. A micro Serama, she had a gurgling thing too as a young pullet, she kinda grew out of it, I think.

can't be any worse than my cochin girl hanging around with our 'temporary' house guinea! i'll be ready for guinea to go outside!! she is a friendly one, but not old enough to set out with the others- i think the serama could keep her company?

I've have had one silkie pullet that developed complete paralysis of her legs when she was about 8 weeks old. We kept her in, gave her all the usual supplements and within 10 days she was well and back out with her sibs. However, she did not have a relapse. I have always felt it was botulism because she did have diarrhea in the beginning. We gave lincomycin in her water during the first 7 days, although I don't know if that was responsible for the cure or if her own immune system overcame it.

I'm concerned more about Marek's with the relapse, however, it is possible that it could be botulism that has relapsed.

I will say that my pullet never quit eating or drinking and although it was difficult to get her upright to do it, she ate and drank great when we held her up to food and water.

Sounds like your girl is not feeling well either. I would definitely start her on something that will treat gram positive bacteria as this is what botulism is caused by....Clostridium botulinum.

So sorry...hope this helps a bit.
