Silkie paralyzed, better again. *Sad update Pg.10*

If she gets over this, I'll see how my little Serama Bee, does with her. Bee tends to be aggressive towards anything chicken-like.

I'll get her something to treat gram positive bacteria if I can.
I got her to eat and drink some but she's curling a bit, her head is tucked in closer. Could she be in pain?

That sound like wry neck. I would try to get her on prednisone if you can get your hands on some. Give her 5 mg twice a day...but be sure to put her on the antibiotic at the same time and keep up the vit. supplements. Would also squeeze a Vit. E capsule into her beak every day.

It is possible that it is an injury causing the paralysis and the wry neck. I've seen miracles since start to use the prednisone.

She did a nasty green watery diarrhea poo a little while ago. Botchulism? Molasses flush?

I have been giving her the vitamins, she ate some oatmeal by herself, but besides that there are improvements on her balance.

I had the same symptoms with a duck - it turned out to be hardware disease. I would get her recovering and acting normal, only to have her relapse. Green poo, legs not moving, her not being able to hold her head up. Food/vitamins/antibiotics would bring her back to normal for a bit, but the infection would quickly get the better of her again. I kept her going for 3 1/2 weeks, on and off the whole time until she became too weak and passed. Had I known, I would have gotten a rusty washer out of her gut and prevented this. Without the washer exiting she was unable to fight the toxicity it was causing. I assume this is possible in chickens as well and something to consider.

Ducks and geese are attracted to shiny things like pennies, screws, nails, staples, coins of any type and other metal objects. They will swallow them. This is extremely dangerous and most often fatal. As it is digested, the metal (and coating on various metals) poisons the bird, harming the kidneys and liver. It can take days and even weeks for any symptoms to become apparent, at which point it is often too late. Early symptoms of hardware disease include a bird that keeps to itself, away from others and eats less. Fecal matter can be flourescent green (though this can also be a sign of other infection). Eventually the bird cannot walk, or walks and falls down. If these symptoms occur, the bird must go to a vet immediately. It must have a xray to see if any foreign objects have be eaten. There is medication that is given to try to get rid of the poisons in the bird, but most often they need to have surgery to remove the objects. If you even suspect your pet has swallowed metal, an immediate xray may be your only chance for saving him or her.

my guess would be botulism, since green poop is a sign of that- the flush would get the bacteria and toxin- let me get to the other computer, it has lots of files i can send.

She is standing again, not well but standing nonetheless.
I haven't gotten her to eat since this morning but I have been flushing.

you might want to look around where she was to see if there is anything decayed, leaves etc, that she may be getting into- for now,, i would keep her in and that way you can tell what is going on with her

I felt her crop, just to see, I didn't feel anything. But I will see what I can do, if what I'm doing doesn't work.

I hope this isn't it.

They are in a two story house, the bottom is on the ground. It had been raining like crazy, I guess it's possible she found something in there. Their feed is up and their house is filled with wood chips and cleaned regularly. She could have gotten into leaves when she was out and about, I let them free range when I'm out and watching.

Just read this thread. I sure do hope your little silkie girl pulls through! She's such a pretty little thing. Does she have a name?
