Genetics is a pretty fascinating subject, it probably isn't as difficult as it sounds. But for now I like the "hatch and see" method too.
I can hear them peeping! I didn't think I'd hear that (if any) until tomorrow!

The humidity was 58% when I got home, working on raising it up now.

Oh I LOVE when they peep at me inside the eggs!!!! :love Keep talking to them, they will recognize you the moment they see you hovering over them!!! Egg-citing!!

The humidity is at 72% now in the incubator. The Accurite keeps saying it's 97 so I slipped the human thermometer in and it says 99. I bumped the incubator setting to 100 a few hours ago and there the Accurite still says 97. It has to be wrong, I think... I hope. 😬 it's also next to the lid now where I used to have it laying in the middle.

I had ordered a more expensive thermometer/ hygrometer combo that has a guaranteed accuracy about 2 weeks ago, it just arrived today, I wish I could slip it in there but aside from having to open the lid, it has a decent mass that would need to be heated and I don't want it to drop the incubator temp. But I'm still tempted to slip it in, I just don't want to make the situation worse, if it is actually bad.

I caught Base REALLY getting into her dust bath tonight, she's wallowed out a good hole and was really going for it. We tried to trim her floof tonight so she can see better but the scissors have cut a few too many hay bale strings. We got a little fluff trimmed but I'll need better scissors to clear her line of vision better.

They're hatching, they're hatching! 7 have external pips, and chirping. Most pipped right on my X, one missed the mark by almost 1/4", and one has pipped 180 from where my mark is, so face down. I think it's the one making the most noise.

First, your birds are SO adorable, always puts a big grin on my face. :love

OMG.....they are hatching!!!!!!!!!!! :jumpy :jumpy SO darn egg-citing!! They will pip and sit for a while, so not to worry, they are busy absorbing the last of the yolk and detaching from the inside of the shell. I am on the edge of my seat, please post pics when any get out!!!! :woot

I had to come to work, but my mom is going to drop by midday and check them for me. I can't wait! When I left there were 8 pipped, I may have just missed one the first time I was counting. But the upside down one definitely had a bigger chip of shell busted out by the time I left.

I'm so excited for the midday update from her! I'm kinda hoping to have one or two fully out by the time I get home, but also know that's kinda pushing things.

Oh good your mom will drop by and check on things. She can update you on the progress. :) They should be hatching by this afternoon or evening. Definitely by the 24 hour mark. This is when humidity is really important to soften the shell so they can break out, shells are pretty hard. So check it when you get home, keep it up around 65%, 70% if you can. I am so egg-cited!
