I think she will go by Cappy Mamma while she's in the broody zone I'm curious how dedicated she'll be, she's young, it's getting cooler out, I'm not real educated on broody's. Other than Juravenator's stubborn broody streak that gave me a lot of practice at trying different methods to break her, basically all to no avail

First time broodies aren't really reliable yet, their hormones aren't raging at their age. Next spell or the following she will probably go full out broody momma!

Not sure what I'll do with all the chicks I'm going to hatch next year! Lol.

I gave Cappy Mamma some gloves, seems fitting


And, not sure if Base is just laying an egg this morning or if her broody senses got triggered by Cappy

Silkies tend to be a broody breed, you are going to be knee deep in broodies come spring!! What a cute bunch of layers!

Cappy looks like she's ready now with her boxing gloves on. This what you might find one morning while collecting eggs....

She is still in there tonight, she popped up like an angry brillo pad and gave me some soft pecks. She is adorable.


Tonight was the first time the chocolates came all the way to the end of the porch and ventured outside. They were so jumpy, every little noise they'd run back to safety. They all had to chirp in alarm over the grass, and the weeds, and anything new

The camera really made them look more red than they actually are, but they still look better under natural light than under any artificial lights.

An "Angry Brillo pad"... She sure is adorable!!

And the Chocolates look fabulous!! Very pretty and nice conformations! You have such beautiful birds in your flock now!! Can't wait to see them grow up!

Skeet says it's cold out I'm really thinking they need a special "silkie' coop to make sure they stay warm enough through the winter. I'm pretty sure none of my existing coops are quite right for them. That's my story anyway!



Base keeps joining Cappy Llama in the nesting boxes, but so far she eventually comes back outside. Cappy Llama is very determined to stay in broody mode, so far her pecks when I collect eggs are super gentle. She's not even biting, just doing a slow gentle boop on my hand.

They are growing and filling out! It doesn't seem like much day to day, but looking back at photos from 1 to 2 weeks ago, definitely maturing

Skeet says it's cold out I'm really thinking they need a special "silkie' coop to make sure they stay warm enough through the winter. I'm pretty sure none of my existing coops are quite right for them. That's my story anyway!

Awww....they are growing into fine looking birds!! Base and Cappy look adorable, broody snugglers. ❤❤ All your birds bring smiles to my face!! I've heard Silkies don't do well in frigid cold temps so they may need a bit more attention to heat or insulation in the coops. You will find out this winter! Thanks for sharing your babies!!! Enjoy the rest if your day!!
