Silkie saga

Definitely have scowls! So so entirely adorable 🥰

I evicted Cappy Llama again tonight and she wouldn't even take a bite, straight back to the nest. 2 more days and she's going to broody jail. She is quite determined to take good care of those eggs! She's so young too 😳

Cracker is getting more color to him each week. At first he was mostly just a light grey color with a few little lines of color. I have him for sale, he's so adorable though 😭 but I can't keep everyone.

I have a lady from work who wants to take Nu and Heavy, they'll have a great home, so I'm happy about that. 2 cockerels down, at least 2 more to go... she's been wanting silkies.

Here's the chocolates, they're growing but still smaller than the others. Especially Fray the Itty Bitty, or because of her spritely boldness, Fray the Fearless. She's so tiny still and gets these big bursts of the zoomies and speeds around jumping way up in the air, it's hilarious. Everyone is still doing great, it's getting into the 30s at night but they just hunker together and seem good. The heat lamp is on but typically only Fray hops into the box to be under that.

I have a drawing of Cracker started, these satin feathers are not so easy, drawing every feather, taking some liberties as patience is not my virtue 🤣 once I finish him I want to do this one of Chonkers, bit we'll see if I want to do another satin or not...

Cappy will make a wonderful mom one day. But hopefully she learns how to care for herself while being broody, she's young yet, she should improve with age.

I am so glad to hear you found a good home for Nu and Heavy, Nu is such a handsome cute little guy, always a relief to know they are going to someone who cares and wants them!

Awww.... the Chocolates are SO adorable! :love I love watching chicks get the zoomies, so stinking cute!!! ❤ Glad everybody is doing well and growing up! How has Fizz Bomb been doing? Is he behaving himself as best he can? :D

Fizzy is trying, he's doing the best he can. I actually haven't had to carry a shovel lately, we've both been being brave. I totally avoid wherever he is and thankfully he hasn't been stalking me as much so its worked to avoid him.

I was trying to talk my hubby into another coop still, but with my breeding plans I'm wonderibg if a well thought out set of breeding pens might be better. Lol! We're getting attached to ALL the cockerels.

That's great to hear, I'm glad Fizz is at least tolerating you, maybe over time he will soften more. If avoiding him works, that's excellent! Keeping my fingers crossed this continues! :fl

My quail got out of hand at one point, I had the hubby build another aviary, then another... It gets out if hand quick! :D I had two chicken coops at one point, almost built another, too many birds! :barnie Breeding pens are perfect, you can squeeze them in long sections, many of them in the space you might build a coop, that's the way to go when you want and need to keep a lot of birds!

So quail math is just as bad as chicken math? 🤣 I'm really starting to lean toward breeding pens, like super well designed, easy to maintain, put together in a very logical way - I'm dreaming, but mayne if I start thinking of what I think I need, by spring time I'll have something perfect drafted. Maybe... lol. I have a spot for 2 comfy sized ones, it would be two 5x12 to 15 ft side by side and I'd still get the two smaller open air coops from my friend too. Yes, yes, I still haven't gotten them...

It's Friday! It's been a better week than any we've had pretty much since April this year, still challenging and stressful but less so than our typical. Which is a huge relief! I had one person give their resignation but I had already set up an interview with someone with another position in mind, but they seem to be a perfect fit for the newly available position, so the day after the one person gave notice, I had the spot filled. I'm sure it will look bad to the team, but things just aligned perfectly, which is a big relief. It typically takes about 6 months to fill spots on my team. One down, 6 hard to fill spots left... two positions have been open for the better part of 2 years. It's hard to find just the right skillset + mindset, plus I'm picky. It is easy to hire someone and it takes a huge amount of energy and time to reverse that decision.

I think it's easy to hoard any kind of bird, if it has feathers, I need more of it. :gig Those sound like perfect sized pens, side by side, you could squeeze a few in. I wished I had done this originally. And they make good chick or quarantine quarters too.

What exactly does your company do? What exactly do you do at work? You may have mentioned this in the past so forgive me if I've forgotten. But I'm glad you found one person already, hiring people can't be easy!

Well, it's Friday, weekend is in sight! Enjoy your day and have a fabulous weekend too!! :)
