👋 Hi Everyone,

🙋🏻‍♀️ Thoughts on this cutie being a smooth sizzle? Also thoughts on gender? 10 weeks old and sweet- the most docile in my flock.

🏥 Today I noticed she was walking funny, with her right foot all crouch up and her toes in a ball- when I looked up this issue up in this site, I found giving raw egg yoke and a liquid multivitamin is best I could not find poly vi sol without iron at any of my stores so i use an adult liquid multivitamin instead… Has anybody tried this and been successful?

💜 Would love any tips/tricks

Thanks All!!

He's a Satin.

Can you get good pictures of his saddle/rump area? Just wanna double check if he's actually a male, or not. Comb makes me think Male though.

Never really had many issues with Silkies, or Satins. Only had one vitamin deficiency in all the years I've raised/bred silkies.

I’m leaning cockerel, because of the large comb and I think I see streamers coming in. Also the red makes me a bit suspicious.

I could see it being a sizzle, although @MysteryChicken and @LadiesAndJane are pretty knowledgeable in the silkie subject.

Whatever it is, s/he is gorgeous!
Thank you! We love s/he. The sibling that were rooster are all crowing and have huge tail feathers now…. I get what people are saying- just is soooo sweet and docile and quiet- it’s hard to believe at 10 weeks it’s a Roo.

Mom is a grey silkie dad is a golden laced Cochin - she first generation Sizzle - which I know is an out dated term. So yes, smooth Silkies it is :)

Egg yolk, multi vitamin and pedalite for the win!!- s/he so much better today! Yesterday morning I gave dried soy bean treats- now I’m thinking it might had something to do with it.

So, I know there is a lot of debate. But guys, s/he’s a smooth sizzle- 3 were curly frizzle and 3 ended up smooth. Mom is a silkie & dad is a golden laced Cochin - she first generation Sizzle - which I know is an out dated term. So yes, smooth Silkie or Satin it is. 😀

Roo is soooooo hard to believe! Either way I’m keeping! It’s sweet, quite and docile. Picked on by ALL the other older hens- but sticks with my 11 week old Ameracuna pullets day & night and definitely the bottom of pecking order with them.

Here’s a few more pictures :)

He's a cockerel I see pointy saddles.

Silkie X Cochin is just a cross breed.

Sizzle is a Silkie With frizzle gene.

Frizzle is a hard feathered, or soft feathered bird with the one copy of the Frizzle gene. Either they inherit the gene, or they don't. It's Semi Dominant.

Frazzled, a hard, or soft feathered bird with two copies of the frizzle gene.

A true Satin is a purebred smooth feathered silkie. (Silkie Without the Silkied feathers)

You’re wrong…. You obviously haven’t researched the history of what a sizzle actually is .. plenty of info for you out there. Here’s a tad bit for your reference. But again. Appreciate your feedback- though it’s false info. Roo, maybe? More to come….

I’m really not here to debate with you on breeds.. more looking for answers on the health issue.

Here’s a bad pic of the hatchlings. You can see they are both curly & smooth from the same parents.
