Silkie Splash Ameraucanas

I would be VERY happy if you sent me four, for "test hatching" you know...

Silkie eggs are very lightly tinted. I would expect that if it carried a blue egg gene or two the eggs would look mlore blue than green.

the silkie gene, h, is recessive, so I'm guessing that if all the eggs were blue, somewhere in the flock's history they were trying to create blue egg laying silkies, or at least made enough crosses that several (at least 2) birds ended up carrying h and also the blue egg gene.

One of the chicks died, so I'm down to 5 now. All babies look the same, and I do believe the feathers are coming in fluffy!

I had gall bladder surgery earlier this week and my MIL has been feeding the chickens for me. So I'll try to get out there this weekend and take some pictures to post.

I am so sorry your chick died... the unpredictability of chickens is why it is important to get more people working on the variety... the day will likely come when you will want to try to get some of your genetics back from someone else you shared with early on, in the event of a predator attack, illness, or some other sort of temporary setback. I would never wish such a thing on anyone, but all you have to do is read the threads on here and in a very short while you will realize that everybody, including the modertors and "important people" who know what they are doing have sometimes catastrophic setbacks in their breeding programs... Please, if you have it in your heart to share, offer your eggs to others for hatching. Put a batch in the crazy egg acution chain and just let 'em rip. It might be a win-win for both seller and buyer. Good luck with your birds, and please do keep us up with the updates.
Patty
