Silkie thread!

After what seemed like forever, I finally got my partridge Silkie chicks from Bobbi Porto. I am just thrilled!! They were hatched on New Year's Day :) I love them! They feathering on their feet is outrageous :)

Do you guys think the lightest one is a Blue Partridge!

Do you know the sex of these guys yet?

Sooooooooo, this morning I get up and go to let the girls out like I do every morning. I turned to go get some scratch for them out of the garage. UR ur URRRRR. I snapped my head back around. Who did that?! Alice (in wonderland or Cooper)? Elvira (or Elvis)? UR ur UR ur URRRRR!

I can't believe my eyes. Oh no, my sweet little girl, Bubbles, just crowed at me!

To my fellow newbies out there - This proves to me what the BYC Silkie gurus here have been telling us. You can't, with certainty, sex a Silkie until they're older. Bubbles will be 4 months old Monday (my avatar pic). I've questioned the sex of two of the girls but I thought for sure Bubbles was a pullet. Oh well. We'll see how this develops before making any rash decisions.

So sorry! I had that go the other way. I had two pullet I thought were boys until they were almost 6 months old!

Kim, they are gorgeous! Yes, Looks like blue partridge to me. :D
A showgirl is one of those "naked neck" silkies. Standard is large fowl. Bantam is small fowl.
DQ is a disqualify in shows.
I don't give probiotics or elytes myself.
Standard can also refer to the perfect bird as you are trying to breed to the "standard"

Joining in! Here is my little one napping in the food dish. Smart little girl not going too far from food! She's my first silkie and I love her so much. Very sweet and laid back. I want more silkies now!

Addiction on the way!!

hello everyone I have a question for you and I hope you can help me. I have three buff silkie hens and a buff silkie rooster. today i hatched out my first chicks from them and was surprised to see a dark chick that looks partridge. there are a few nice coloured ones and then the partridge.

I have been reading that mixing blue into the buffs at some point can do this. does anyone know if these birds are a lost cause? what should i do? they are very nice birds and some have been shown. I AM very surprised that this has happened as I got them from a breeder who really seemed to know what he was doing.

Any advice? Do i just selectively cull the non perfect buff ones or should I get out of breeding the buffs altogether?

I think buff doesn't always breed true. I wouldn't worry about it if only one is a different color. Genes are finicky! Now if all your chick came out non-buff I would say there is something wrong

Here's a picture I got today of one of my Silkie chicks (a little over 2 weeks):

She wasn't too happy, as you can tell.
