Silkie thread!

Love their wings and coloring. They look very nice for their age.
Ethel is self-blue (lavender). They are the same thing but self-blue is the correct name. Lucy is self-blue cream (porcelain). They are very pretty!!
This could be a good choice as long as father and daughter don't share a common fault.
Oh thank you! Booker only has 4 toes on one foot, so that is the only flaw I was already aware of. He was the only one out of the hatch like that. They have very nice sq parents. They are our first silkies, and I love them. We call them Dodo birds. Thanks for your reply!

How old is your chick? Give it a few days. That's how mine started and of course I was freaking out, thinking it was going to die or something.

It didn't look good when it hatched to begin with. It had it's eyes shut, or at least half way shut, most of the time. I thought it was going to en up with splayed leg after I taped the toes, but once I made sure the footing wasn't slippery and the chick figured out how to walk with the booties, it turned out fine. And after day 4 or 5, it started to perk up and get stronger and stronger. Now I have a happy little self-blue chick. And it keeps up with the bigger ones just fine! Hopefully that's the case with your chick also.

Scaly leg mites like that shouldn't affect his walking at all. I had a couple that had the mites much, much worse and they were walking just fine.

Maybe a Cochin. I hear they're very, very broody and good moms also. I haven't had a broody Cochin yet, these are my first Cochin girls this year.

Oh, good! I'll find some more of those band-aids and tape the toes.
that is very encouraging, thank you! I want to see how he turns out, I do! he actually has a black beak and feet like he's supposed to haha. I wonder if he's splash, I'm really curious to what his coloring is. He is just 2 days old? hatched sunday morning. my friend had to get him out of the egg because the egg was stuck on. I'm thinking the humidity was too low. I'll keep giving him a chance. how did the eyes on yours turn out? was he able to open them fine later? how long did that part take? and yeah, he's still slipping all over the place. even with the paper towel

Yes! Boo has hatched eggs so I know she's female but she over powers Puffin , my biggest male all the time! Im soooo proud of my little girly!

Post a picture for us, I'm sure someone can tell you what color your chick is.
My chicks eyes turned out just fine. I think it was day 4 or 5 once it was up to full strength with eyes fully open and all.

This is what my chick looked like on day 1.

This is what it looked like couple days ago. Not a great picture but you can see it standing up nice and eyes are very large and bright.

I have my 5 little chicks in the middle of the living room floor. I spread some towels on the floor and got some dirt and grass for the chicks. It's been a good half an hour and they've been poking around, pecking at the random cat toys that are all over the place, pooping up a storm and napping. FINALLY, they figured out they can play in the dirt!

My easter egger, Spot, figured it out first. Go figure. She's(?) the one that first figured out how to dust bathe in the shavings also. Little Spot is scratching away and dirt is flying! The silkies are starting to figure it out too. They're hysterical! I wish I had my camera somewhere close. If I get up and go get it...that'll put an end to their game.

Chickens are SO funny!

Anyone have tips for taming your birds? Mine aren't as friendly as what I would like them to be. I make sure to hold them all every day, hand feed treats/food/etc. Every time I pick one of them up they protest a lot, will settle down for a little bit, and then cry for their buddies. :( Even if I take two out at a time (and always within sight of the others), they still get upset.
