Three weeks is usually the spaz era - it can last until first egg. One way to combat that is to chop up a hard boiled egg and put your hands in there with the egg on it.. after they get over the initial "THE HAND" response some brave soul will come and peck at what they see.. and then the others will.. and pretty soon "THE HAND" will mean FOOD. Only problem is - sometimes the brains on the birds don't register the difference between fingers WITH food and fingers WITHOUT food. Most of my Silkies have figured it out - but a few of the SFH boys are still stupid.. ouch!

ROFL. I have a few that are still stupid too haha. And if I'm wearing nail polish.. forget it.

Mine are all at the point they will come running when I open the back door, though.

I have to be careful in the chicken yard, too. I've got a couple of black sex links who will jump up to nip at your fingers. And when you head back to the coop, they all come running no matter where they are in the yard to beg for treats. Even the silkies have started coming.

The roo pictured is last year's breeder, I have some of his chicks growing up now. I also have cockerels from a couple of weeks old to 5-6 months. Younger ones are not guaranteed to be boys, of course!

Well I have four peeps hatched out now, looks like one blac one blue two paints. The one paint that I was worried about seems to be doing well now. I am worried about the heat the hens are panting I hope the heat don't hurt them. It's suppose to hit 97 today and its well on the way.

My temp on the porch is reading 101 just outside of Roseburg. Accu weather says 96 but its wrong. Your lucky I would love 85.
