Silkie thread!

I agree little yellow looks like a cross but bottom dark looks like Sussex. Here is my Sussex

Yes it certainly looks like yours. I had just assumed that they were from a silkie hen. :)

A little update on how she's doing. I got her out to feed and water her and she really protested the tube. It was a real fight, and a sight too. So I put the food bowl in front of her and tilted it so she could get her head in and she ate like crazy. I made her take water by using the tube and after that I put the water glass to her beak and she drank. Thats something she has been refusing to do is to drink water on her own. So I sat with her on my lap for 3 hours alternating food bowl and water glass and she fed herself. She is still "wonky" but I helped her sit upright so she could eat. When she was done she wiped her beak on the towel she was sitting on. Attempted to preen a little then off to snooze-land. She's in bed for the night now.

Oh poor little sweety, at least she is eating. Try some sardines in olive oil , but only as a treat.

I'm glad she finally ate and drank in her own, hope she keeps improving

So I'm going to buy some chicks but I would to get some hens. Somewhere on this thread people where talking about the shape of the beak and comb. Can you guys help me with this?

haven't heard that before, I'm sure someone else can, I always look for more wing feathers, started tail feathers (depending on age) smallest chicks, and thinnest legs when picking out pullets.
A breeder told me in his flock and years of raising chicks the bigger the top knot the better chance of having a pullet.... Good luck

Hey Fancy, or anyone else, we lost a bird last night.
It was one of our BO hens and she's in with two others and our only Silkie girl.
Two of the buffs have had a soft molt going on for a while which I figured was about shorter days and their age.
The feather loss was pretty much limited to the saddle and no, the roos have no access to the girls, so it wasn't from them.
I had also noticed lately that their waterer has had some food sediment in it when I change it daily,
I considered it to be what for lack of a better word, backwash.
I don't ever see this in the roo's waterer, so I guessed it might be a slow crop, or something of that nature, but I do give them grit.
Everyone has been eating, drinking and very active.
The three hens were laying regularly up until a few days ago when one stopped, but I'm not sure if it was her.
Yesterday evening I noticed that the one we lost was gapping almost as if it were hot, but it was only in the low 70's.
I guess it is possible it was something respiratory, but until last night, I hadn't noticed anything.
She went up in the coop on her own and the last time I saw her alive she was on the perch.
This morning I found her under the perch passed on.
I examined her, felt no obstruction in the crop, no mites, or signs of parasites but her vent seemed to be protruding slightly.
Everyone else seems to be fine short of one of the other buffs being in a soft molt, so I'm not sure what to think.
Any ideas?
