Ok, on with the show with a commercial!
Keep in mind, that so far as I have seen on BYC, the Silkie people are
much more gentle in critiques than some other breeds. If you ask for a critique in the Breeds, Genetics, and Showing threads, you will get a more formal opinion as to how your birds hold up to the Standard of Perfection. Keep in mind, ALL chicks are cute, and ALL chickens are beautiful in their own way. If pets are what you are after, then take the "oh, how cute!" comments and let it go. On the other hand, if you want a more detailed and valued critique on whether your birds are show/breeder quality, then be prepared to get HONEST opinions from seasoned breeders. Keep in mind, it takes just as much money to raise show/breeder birds as it does pet quality birds; the trick lies in finding out the difference.
That all said, I will post a pic of a White Silkie cockerel, pictured at just under 6 months old...and in the MUD! He really does have abundant shank and foot feathering!
I am not particularly fond of White birds, so he has to go. I know it's just one pic, but please give me an idea of how he looks. He has 5 toes on both feet, nicely placed, black skin, and a nice black comb, and nice short back. I will try to get more pics when the run dries out.
