OMGeeze he has some beautiful coloring! The f1 Buff pullet is a daughter of my partridge Roo and a Bantam Buff Orpington. Would she have gotten a blue gene from him?View attachment 3413288
and she was bred to a Splash, hence blue or splash babies. Buff is a diluted Red from what I understand, and Red comes from Black. I need to go to genetics schools!
Well besides the too big and too light comb, he also has the 'moore head' gene that he likes to pass along.. I've gotten one fluffy son of his that doesn't have the black head. But he does produce colors.. Later I'll be hatching his daughters eggs that are in with him to see who's doing what. This one below is his only fuzzling son that doesn't have the black head. He has a much smaller comb, but still too red. I'm sure 'I'm Blue Too' can fix that as well as putting the pom pom on her babies, just like her mom does.OMGeeze he has some beautiful coloring!
My very first hatch I had ONE chick I knew was a boy that was gonna be a light partridge. I could KICK myself for not keeping that boy!!!
IF I could only get a silkie rooster with the brilliant color that this guy has, I'd put purple and green beads around his chest and call him Mardi Gras! But, from what I've seen, most of the silkie colors are fairly muted.AHA! That daddy also produced this boy and several others like him..so now I know.View attachment 3413338
I've missed this thread and I've been catching up on all the beautiful chicks and Silkies! @Hinotori, your dog is beautiful, what breed is it!Just pretend this is a really big splash silkie cockerel.
Well I've almost got Hermes trained around the chickens. He probably won't be safe to leave with them until he outgrows the teenage hyperness.
The silkies are wary of him but no longer scared of him. He still freaks out my large fowl.

I've decided I will hatch a clutch of chicks fathered by this guy to see how they turn out. He carries one copy of the silkied gene. View attachment 3394056
And this one I wish was a color I wanted.
