Nala sounds so sweet! So my silkie, Nala, has always HATED to be held, scratched, kicked, flailed... well she just started laying eggs last week, and now she runs to the corner of the run when she sees me and jumps until I reach in to pick her up. She is SOOO SWEET!!!! I will have to upload a new pic of her. OH! And she is a daily layer!!
I have two tiny bantam cochin chicks, I had Nala out with them yesterday, and she seemed to just ignore them. I am hoping to integrate them w her and the others in a few weeks. I hope she and the other older girls don't try to eat them! I was reading that silkies are very territorial, so I am a little worried!
She almost looks like a lavender but I am seeing some brownish feathers in there as well which I wouldn’t expect to see. She is gorgeous! I don’t have enough experience to recommend a color but if she is lavender then you would want to breed her to another lavender. Lavender is recessive to black and if she is a lavender then breeding her with any other color would likely produce black.View attachment 2371879just curious on the colouring of this silkie I've recently acquired. And if I find a cockerel for her what colour would be good for breeding purposes?thanks
Here are Nala and Bella, out for their afternoon playtime (house chickens). Nala is the partridge color, Bella is my blue, which you see clearly only when her butt is facing youNala sounds so sweet!
Silkies are typically not territorial. Sometimes when they are raising their own chicks they can be, but other than that they are pretty docile. Thankfully!
Omg this is too adorable!!!!here are some funny action shots from a video i took of my silkie babies earlier. zoomin View attachment 2371968View attachment 2371969
