I never thought I'd own a silkie. Until a little old lady gifted us one. Pompom is the sweetest thing I have ever owned, and I've owned alot of critters. Shes smarter then the average chook, hiding in the shadows of the tallest critter she can find, and following them around for protection. She had a favorelle rooster, but quickly forgot about him when she discovered the australorp rooster. I think if summer looks to be too hot for her (our days exceed 40 degrees Celsius at times) she may be a house pet

I'm not 100% on this but I believe the cuckoo and barred pattern comes from the same gene but one pattern appears more clear and defined, whereas the other looks more blotchy and smudged.

So in silkies, I believe all with that pattern are known as cuckoo silkies because their feathers prevent the pattern from looking as clear and defined as the barred pattern.

I think slow feathering and fast feathering can play a part in it too.
Thank you so much!

Not at all, im just very kindly telling them how much they are wrong.
That's right! How dare they insult our precious babies! Just kidding, I know everybody has their own preferences.

Recently won me a third place in the 2019 pullet of the year class!

My blue got me second in that class too.
I like her golden color, and I am happy that your pullets won you some awards.

She is very fluffy and cute. What color is she?

It took me at least 15 minutes to catch up!

How do you keep your silkies from going broody? Mine aren't laying yet, but I have heard they go broody a lot.

I want a splash REALLY bad! Along with a partridge.

I don't understand a word of that, but it sounds like you know your stuff:)

What is so bad about naming chickens? I name all of mine.

Just some people I have met think naming chickens is juvenile.

I name my chickens.
Awww what’s are their names?

Here are my two little girls. Love their eggs. They share 4 to five eggs a week each and play nice with everyone. Ok, yes, that is chicken wire....in the breakfast room. It keeps the goats out of the feed (most of the time). They free range and have a separate coop and secured run.
