That is just how they look when I take them out of their nests, where they insist on trying to hatch the ceramic eggs. They just sit there for awhile. I take them out 2-3 times a day to make sure they eat and drink.Beware of broody silkies!!!
Bella and Coco are pretty girls
I love how the broody silkie terrors are brooding next to each other, that's adorable!
Can't wait to see the chicks!Oh my goodness seeing everyone's photos has me DYING for my chicks to arrive Thursday.
Thank youThey are all just gorgeous birds, such fluffy crests and tails! Love the shiny black feathers that Schorschette has.
Maku is so handsome and stately now.
Hope they continue to all get along, you will likely have to give the boys their own space if you plan to keep them all.![]()
They make a clear statement sitting there after been taken outThat is just how they look when I take them out of their nests, where they insist on trying to hatch the ceramic eggs. They just sit there for awhile. I take them out 2-3 times a day to make sure they eat and drink.![]()
Me, tooCan't wait to see the chicks!![]()
So much fun seeing how they all interact with each other, isn’t it! I call it chicken TV.Thank you
Yes Maku is a pretty boy, he has wonderful big bright eyes and when he stands in the sunlight his colors sparkle and shine. He is kind of as long as wide, like a little cube, especially from above - a sparkling cube of fluff
Yes until now they/the boys get along...it will be difficult to decide who will stay with the girls and who will live in the bachelor pad. Sindbad and Snowman are always (or most of the time) together, like a team. Maku is submissive but very interested in the girls, James is submissive. Kasimir is submissive and stays in the background but since the last past days he is getting more and more interested in the girls. All the cockerels warn and dance and show food (but Kasimir eats the food he shows himself). It is so hilarious: Sindbad was the first - as always with everything - to show food. But in the beginning he made the food call and then ate it by himself. Now he makes the food call and doesn't eat it by himself anymore - and the one who is always coming running and eating it is Snowman

Yeah chicken TV is better than TVSo much fun seeing how they all interact with each other, isn’t it! I call it chicken TV.
is it possible that James may be a female? I don’t see much comb development in the photos of him. Do you want to post a clear close-up photo of his comb with crest pushed back? Or has he crowed and otherwise made it evident!?![]()
I just trim carefully around the eyes until you can see their eyes well enough, then they can see. Have somebody else hold her still why you trim. We just do a little bit at a time until enough is removed. I trim both above and below the eye. Grows back pretty fast!I need some advice please, regarding crest trimming. My little Schorschette has difficulties to take small things from the ground - she often pecks close miss. She doesn't have a huge crest, but I think it is how the crest is shaped (and Schorschette is bearded and has little cheek muffs).

I think it is the part directly over/next to the beak, shaped like a fan - here is a picture of Mirabelle showing well what I mean:

What should I pay attention to when trimming the fathers? How short may I trim?
I have rounded scissors.
