Well he's gonna be gorgeous!
Thanks! I don’t blame them, they are awesome and this is the first time it’s happened. Here’s a photo from today where you can really see the boy coming through!
Can’t wait to see what his streamers and saddle feathers look like!

Perfect beginning to some satins - right?!

He definitely stands like a boy who knows he’s special and handsome! 😍 It’s amazing how some birds just exude it!
Right! Joey has never in a day acted all hotshot...poor Grayson is constantly standing all 2 heads taller than everyone else and on hyper alert!
Joey's my boy!
Are yall gonna leave the name the same @LadiesAndJane ? I didn't know if Hotaru could be for male or female...or if everyone is as crazy as I am bout that sorta thing.

Hotaru is used for both genders in Japan from what I understand, more often boys actually. So name stays!😍
I had the babies out with the rest of the flock under careful observation this afternoon.
A few of the hens tried to let Hotaru know he was not part of the flock. He actually took them on and chased them, hackle feathers raised and all! It was funny, he weighs all of 3/4 of a pound. The only one that did not back down from him was his mama, Hanabi. She is a pistol and apparently so is he!🤣 Fiery redheads for sure!

HI! I am new to Silkies and haven't quite figured out if they're for me or not. I have a pretty mixed flock of good layers and recently added 2 Silkie chicks to my brooder (grey and partridge). Shortly after, my hen Elenor went broody for the first time and since I don't have a rooster, I needed to source some eggs for her. (I needed something fast so I could sneak them under her before my hubs got home from work because I seriously have enough birds and the only eggs I could get were silkies from my friends daughter.) They are now on day 5 and coming along nicely.

I am hoping to fall in love with this breed. I wanted to build my flock with good layers of big eggs so silkies obviously not a great choice for that!

Welcome to the world of cuddles!
I got into silkies thinking that's what I wanted...and got a chance to just "try" satins and FELL in luv even MORE, if that's possible!
