i just recently learned that it is “illegal” in the state of Indiana to alter the natural color of chickens or rabbits!! luckily i never dyed my silkies nor my no white rabbits....otherwise I might have been in deep dooodoooo!
That law is very weird.
I used to live in Oregon, & they have a dumb law that nobody follows anyways. The dumb law states: "It's illegal to eat ice cream on a Sunday."
Never been taken out of the law books.

lexington ky has a law like that....stating it’s illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your pocket! :lau but the one about chickens/rabbits is actually a fairly recent law that DH ran across online as he was searching for the new ordinance that was passed in secret that we were supposedly in violation of per a neighbors complaint.....

Okay.

Here’s some pics of my little Susan, Allison, and Timmy! Silkies are definitely “unusual” but they are sweet as pie!!

I absolutely LOVE silkies!! We have several now after starting out with just one. She has hatched several batches of eggs now and is the BEST broody and mom you can ask for. I don’t have to do anything but provide the right food and shelter and she does the rest. They come running to me for food/treats and to be petted. I love my old girl and all her beautiful babies and grand babies.

I haven’t bothered with any bigger birds since the original flock. Only kept the silkie/frizzle breeding going. They are the calmest gentlest sweetest birds I’ve ever seen. Our beautiful white silkie if grandma to all the younger ones. Just had her and her daughters hatch another 9 chicks together and are raising them now. They are gorgeous birds from what I can tell so far. Couple cream to white color. And a couple Greyish color. Can’t wait to see their adult feathering come in.

I enjoyed our silkies, but had to worry too much about them getting wet. I.Q. shot up when we trimmed feathers from around their eyes...but still not the sharpest tacks, in general. Sweet and cute, yes. At best we might get three eggs a week from one. Our Old English Game Bantam was the best mother ever; raised the most predator saavy and best foraging silkies we had.
