Hotaru update (and the blue girls, Kumori and Sora). I was working on another island for 4 days and hadn’t seen them and they just seem so huge all of a sudden! Just under 7 weeks. Need to get them moved out of the outdoor brooder to a bigger space, it’s just so wet, miserable weather lately.😊View attachment 3087912View attachment 3087914View attachment 3087915View attachment 3087916View attachment 3087917View attachment 3087918
They're all so gorgeous! 😍

They are so pretty! And Hotaru is stunning!!!

Sorry I'm bombarding yall but I had to share some of these pics I finally got!
They are 2 ½ weeks old now...all satins.
This is Bluey my favorite...never seen a coloring like this and super excited! I think @LynnaePB said it looked mottled the first couple days.
Any thoughts on how it might look as it grows out? Unfamiliar with mottled.

Aww I'd be excited too! This is exactly what I'd expect from a blue mottled. It's really hard to say how much patterning they'll have early on but the amount of white already there is a good sign! They often get more white with each adult molt. My first mottled baby that I hatched out is much less patterned looking than Bluey, I couldn't even tell for sure there was mottling until the chin feathers came in. 😂

I'm excited to see how little Bluey develops pattern! I've got a youngster a similar age who is my second mottled who has more patterning too so far. With mottled being so new in silkies/satins still I think the amount of patterning is still all over the place. Some might just look like a black or blue etc but have a few white tipped feathers that you can find if you look close while others it is obvious right away and they look more close to what you'd expect a mottled to look like. 😊

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond!!! She is so cute and such a little sweetie!! 🥰 I will update with photos as she grows!!

Of course! And I'll look forward to the updates, I'm sure she'll be a real little stunner! 🥰

They really are growing so fast and all so adorable! Hotaru's color is just so striking! I love the little white cap/head and neck feathers. They really set the coloring apart from some pyle like colors I've seen, I think it is just so cute and unique! 😍

So the black Christmas chick that's now 4 months old is the possible boy, if I do keep 'him' what likely colours will the chicks be? - if Biscuit allows him to mate that is.... Still no sign of 'him' trying to mate or fight Biscuit.

Hmmm well I'd expect you could still get a nice variety of colors from that little one given the background. Partridge genes and recessive white genes definitely both have a chance of being carried (with who dad was the partridge/eb base should actually be guaranteed to be carried). So I expect you may get some solid colors like that little one (maybe with some leakage) and also you should get some partridge or grays/silver partridge and have a chance of getting recessive whites too maybe. I know there are some other genes floating around that might affect pattern too and give more of a Columbian look to some of the babies that inherit an eb (partridge) base. Anyhow it's tough to guess exactly without trying but I think there should still be a good variety. 😁

They've grown so much! Hotaru is beautiful!

Little cutie crowed this morning! Little pathetic creak more than anything else.❤️ So that’s that, Hotaru is a boy! Suspected as much with the comb and wattle formation and stance the past week!🤣
Still hoping to be able to keep him. Will have to make some adjustments. Seems to be the flock is in constant flux!
First time with an inaccurate test result from the company I use for DNA testing. I am meticulous with my collection, so I’m not quite sure what happened here.🤷‍♀️

Awww good thing Hotaru is adorable! :D Those most recent pictures did look pretty indicative of a boy haha. I wonder if it was on their end and not yours. I'm sure you are quite meticulous, but if they have tons of samples to run they may have made an error?

I love his coloring!!

Thanks! I don’t blame them, they are awesome and this is the first time it’s happened. Here’s a photo from today where you can really see the boy coming through!
Can’t wait to see what his streamers and saddle feathers look like!
