I've done some coop renos inside for my expanding flock of 22.. more roosts and nests. I may have to change the nests to be side by side instead of stacked, I'm still working on placement of things anyway.
One of my 3 month olds (shipped eggs) is a boy for sure. The others look to have a more fluffy crest then this one but most likely 2 more of the 5 are boys too. I have listed him to rehome since the others have more good looking paint spots.

Has anyone used wood shavings before? - do they eat it? Mine seem to peck and eat it so I have only put down a small amount cautiously.
Mine scratched it but never seemed to eat it.

I see puff(or smokey, maybe another one I forgot🙈) blending in in the last pic🤣

I have such high hopes now for Sioux my little cochin mix (unknown daddy-o, my friend had so many roos in the yard with mom the red cochin). I'm putting her and Cherokee in with Gen Lee since he's a partridge. She's close in coloring to the Puff Meister, one of his daughters...

She and her sister just turned 20 weeks old yesterday.

I use large flake horse stall pine shavings in my run. No problems with the larger birds eating it. No smell issues. I don’t like having the small chicks on the shavings though until they are a few weeks old because they do try to eat it.😊

I've got a funny to tell. Tiny Dancer and Mr T live in the house for the most part.. In the morning I open the back door and out they go... then they are back in for some food and water, and back out the go for hours. After their second trip out the door, I close it because it's A/C time down here in the south.. (Tierra del Fuego my brother calls it). Just around noon the boys want back in for lunch and water, so Tiny has figured out a way to open the back door. He'll stand next to the door and crow his little heart out (not hard to hear at all) and VOILA! The door opens as if by magic. They come in for lunch and a snooze in their favorite roosting spot, and 30 minutes to an hour later they are ready to go back out until dusk. Smart little boogers!

I use the larger pine flakes sometimes for older grow outs and adults. They seem to be large enough my silkies don't try to eat them. ☺️

You''ve got some beautimous babies! If I could get some partridge satins like yours I'd be in 7th heaven. Wow, what projects!

Thank you! I love how vibrant the two little satin boys turned out, they really pop out next to all my blacks and paints etc. 😂

OMGeeze they are all so beautiful!
Lil Stumpy!!!
That mauve girl is gorgeous!
And u got a NN mille Satin!!! I'm so jealous!
Ya babies are precious!
Thank you for the pics...u got your hands full 😉

Thank you! Yeah I definitely have my hands full with all sorts of projects but they are a lot of fun. I just can't wait until the little mille splits are old enough to breed. I'm so impatient to get some full patterned milles. 😂

I've got the possibility of another really exciting silkie project but I have to wait for the weather to cool down before the breeder I've been talking to can send eggs. I'm sure I'll be posting more here when I get them. ☺️

Your birds are just gorgeous!😍😍😍
Thank you! 🥰

I bought a bale of shavings and started using it for a broody nest, the eggs kept sinking down so didn't stay warm 😞 I now have wet dirt in the coop problems so added the shavings to nests and coop floor but they keep pecking at it and eating it 😟 it is helping mix in the wet dirt so it's not turning to mud though so good in that way.

Hmm.. so I've never done this, but what about a little basket with a little bit of shavings in it? Then they can't sink or slide out, and mama should be able to sit in it comfortably. 🤔
