Silky ducks

RainPlace has some. She hasn't been on in awhile but you could try to shoot her a email.

I ordered 10 silkie ducklings from Holdereads for the spring.. I had a deposit already sent in for something else that was later not available.. I was only going to get a few and just pick them up, but with the prices of gas and time, its just easier to get them shipped.. And I can sell off the extras after I determine how many I want to keep.. I want some of there calls, but they dont sell them as ducklings.. bummer...

There prices for last year were $15 per duckling or $18 per duckling for show quality ones.. I opted for the show quality ones..

I only want bantam breeds, that is why I chose the silkies... the other ones they ship just didnt appeal to me.

You know the saying about ass u me? well it fits you. Silkie ducks shed water very well. Ducks are not really water proof more like water resistant.

I have two silkie ducks from Holderreads, from last spring. They live in a raised platform house, an inner house I put straw in, and outside they have their pond. They are very friendly, seem as hardy as my other mini-ducks. They just can't fly, as their feathers are missing the 'zipper' part of the feather. Their feathers look 'softer'. Course I live in N. Ga. Mtn region. Winters are pretty mild, some below freezing nights, rarely in teens at night. They are both girls, (need a boy!) and are already laying. I read their shells were "harder" and were hard to hatch orginally and they had to do some crossing to get the shells viable. As far as I am concerned they 'crack' like my other eggs do....

Just throwing this one out here, what is the point of getting TSQ silkies when they aren't recognized by the APA? Are they recognized/judged in bantam shows?

Maybe because they are closer to what he is looking for while developing the breed?

I just sent an email asking that question. I will post when I get an answer.
