Silly DH

I watched a documentary where it said that the commercial egg factories wash the eggs and then they put a coating back on to resemble the natural coating so that they last long.

This is an old debate on here; I think you've gotten the gammut of answers. Pros and cons either way, so I do as the notion strikes. I don't want poop in my egg cartons or fridge, though, so those get washed. Sometimes eggs sit around on the counter a while, sometimes refrigerated. I have an "older" and "newer" area but am not real precise about which is the oldest. If I think some are a month old, they get scrambled and fed to someone, human or animal, or hard boiled.
