Silver Laced Wyandotte sexing

*sigh* at 21 weeks we have CROWING :( It was all looking ok ... but I'd already contacted the seller about the wrong colouring and was getting an exchange (she had hatched them from eggs from another breeder). Those pointed neck feathers were the earliest sign that all was not girl!!!

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Did you get opinions on male or female earlier? Just curious to accuracy. :)

It's nice that the breeder is going to change with you. But what is wrong with the color?

Usually the first sign of males in a laced Wyandotte is actually blotchy white bars on the wings instead beautiful clear lacing. Usually by 8-10 weeks.

Best wishes with your new bird! :pop

Yes, I posted earlier in this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/silver-laced-wyandotte-sexing.171832/page-54#post-19036966 and you replied (thank you!).

The browning on the wing wasn't what I expected for a pure silver-laced pullet ... which given it is a rooster is now not an issue!

Unfortunately the seller only has young ones available at the moment ... don't really want to have to wait that long for POL or rooster again!

I don't see anything at all (except the short tail) that indicates cockerel.

Looks like I said looked like pullet except the short tail. So I was WRONG! :smack I don't mind as long as I am continuing to learn. Note I guess the short tail has NEVER lied YET. Those have always been male so far in my experience.

Thank you for allowing me to share this learning experience.

I also wouldn't want to wait for POL or cockerel again. Oh and for crowing... I got my earliest ever. A Silkie boy between 4-5 weeks!

Anybody want to make any guesses on these two? The one I’m worried about is the GLW. But I would like your opinion on both.

How old? Does look like a to me. My GLW rooster looked like that by 6 weeks. Comb is very red and red wattles too. Did this chick have slow tail & wing feathers? That’s been a sign for me too.

It’s about 5 or 6 weeks. It’s tail feather showed earlier and are bigger than the SLW. It’s weird, the signs are opposite.

Anyone have an ideas on helping me sex this SLW?!

Here is our SLW at 3.5 weeks. She's now 5 weeks. The comb looks the same and no appearance of waddles. I think she's probably a pullet. Thoughts?
