Simple Question: What Do You Feed Your Laying Hens?

Currently Modesto Milling organic finisher pellets and Scratch & Peck grower mash. No one is laying right now so no reason to feed layer (and I'll probably just keep them on grower/all flock from here on), but I much prefer pellets for dry feed.

I like pelleted feed too, but can't get the Flock Raiser that way. I use the yellow plastic feeders from Premier, and they have helped keep the 'billing out' problem under much better control. Chicks, especially bantam chicks, can't manage pellets either.

A simple question: what brand and type (crumbles vs pellets) of commercial chicken feed do you provide for your laying hens?
My answer is very similar to the others! My big girls (Orpingtons and sexlink hybrids) get Purina Layena pellets, the crumbles are just too messy. My husband made a gravity feeder using a bucket and PVC pipe (there are a ton of DIY ideas for these if you google it - ours looks like this one:
) which we hang in the coop and stopped our girls from throwing their food all over the ground. I have oyster shell and grit in containers around the coop too, and I throw them a few handfuls of either scratch or mealworms in the morning. They get our fruit and veggie scraps as well.

My silkies get the all flock crumbles, because they are spoiled and we have 2 roosters so I don't want to overdo the calcium for them. Same thing with the oyster shells, grit, scraps, and scratch sparingly. For some reason they aren't really fans of mealworms!

Originally fed Dumor layer pellets. Switched over to flock raiser and oyster shells while integrating the chicks. Dad switched back to layer because he liked pellets better than crumbles.
