My daughter was slated to go camping w/ my mom and sisters kids. It was going around the daycare all summer... So of course I was worried that my dd would get it on friday somehow and pass it around for the next two weeks camping.. So her hair was checked friday before leaving the daycare.. (cause they do it way better then I could, I've never seen it before) knocking on wood again

I checked again at home friday, Saterday morning, before my mom came to get her.. Then my mom checked befor taking her... Then guess what, my sister was dropping off her kids @ my moms.. My sister checked too.. Probley over kill on the checking.. But it didn't get spread all over the place if it was there.. My sis is busy, like every mom... Why the heck would you spread it around knowingly... Can't believe she would screw you that way, the money for the treatments, your dd beautiful hair, cleaning your house like a mad man.. really... the chemiacals you all had to absorb to try to get rid of it... what's her problem?

Ok, sorry you didn't need anyone flanning the fire... Grrr, people like that piss me off!!!

good luck, try the mayo

We fought lice like mad here for a while beginning of last year. DD1 has really long, thick waist length hair that was a nightmare to comb through. The other 2 were a lot easier. Anyhow, NONE of the chemical shampoos did a ding=dong bit of good. I got desperate and got Front Line for cats and parted her hair down the middle and put about 5 spots on her scalp and also at the base of her neck and we haven't seen any lice since. I swear I fought them for at least 3 months. It only took one treatment with Frontline to kill them all.....

Just a suggestion.

Heard the mayo thing... maybe I'll do that instead of the 2nd dose in 7-10 days... now tell me, if this crap kills the bugs AND eggs like the box claims then why would I need to treat again to 'kill any newly hatched eggs"? Bah!

I toldja Mom was a paranoid yes? Any time she sees the Rid shampoo on sale she stocks up, and sends some to me and Sis's houses... so we had plenty squirreled away, plus the spray for the mattresses too. So no cost as yet, but still, 10000% annoying to do such a thing.

Hadn't heard about Tea Tree Oil... how does that work? Is it already in a spray or do you get oil and put it in a nozzle bottle and add X water or???? Sounds a lot less nasty than dousing ourselves with baby oil... gah.

Appreciate the support, SO glad there's at least someone on the planet who hasn't had this curse... just wish we were in your lucky ducky ranks.

Weeeelll...you're not the only one fighting it. We decided to let DD go back to public school this year and she has had it for the WHOLE FIRST month of school!!! REinfestation THREE times now!!!!!

Anyway, google lice home remedies. Mayo is one that does work but not as well as others. The WalMart brand cootie shampoo is better than the name brand. We also used 1 cup vinegar 1 cup rubbing alcohol and 1 cup Listerine...let sit in hair towelled up until dry. All the alcohol dries the little buggers right up. Then do the regular buggy shampoo to kill the eggs, no LIVE ones should be left. It takes less of the shampoo that way too. DD has wound up getting a super short cut as well. Luckily, thankfully, DH and I came up clean. We all have ur own brushes etc. but we treated anyway to be sure. DON'T FORGET BRUSHES AND COMBS!!! It sucks to have that crap! So yeah, public school=great idea

Oh the irony... this is the year we started home schooling. It was freaking FAMILY that brought it in... DD's BFF in the world and all... you know, that whole socialization bit. GAH, one more person mentions socialization to me and I think I'll whack them... hmmm or maybe just give them DD's pillow. MWahahah.

I've got the brushes boiled, but then had to use them to pull DD's hair up for karate... and then DH came home, hair not done, and used it so I'ma go ahead and boil them all again just in case.

Alcohol/List/Vin... I think we might have all those... may have to buy List... I think last time I got Scope.
Thanks for that one... I wasn't looking forward to the mayo... I don't even like mayo except in tuna salad.

Two battles last fall in our house, Coconut Scented Creme Rinse was the silver bullet. Don't know how or why, but it worked.

Any particular brand on that? And do you mean cream like Conditioner or... some other fancy stuff... I'm not much of a hair stuff buff.

Nah, just the low-end conditioner from WalMart. The youngest DD had hair down to the middle of her back. We didn't have to clip anything.

The second go-round, the DW pulled out the big artillery, a hair straightning iron. The nits never had a chance.

We had something similar happen, gotta love family. All I can say is OLIVE OIL. We litterally had oil dripping off our heads, wrapped them up in shower caps and left them for 8 hours. I had done a bit of reading that it suffocated the little buggers. The chemicals didn't work on the kids and I was pregnant and could not use them. It worked. I also added tea tree oil to our shampoo which we used for the next 6 weeks or so. All this I had read about online. My sheets got the super hot setting in the wash. I had peppermint oil spray handy and an orange oil spray that was recommended for the rest of the house. We never did have a 2nd breakout. I am super careful when we are around family though. No more wrestling with the cousins.

Straightening Iron?? Now that I do have on hand... excellent... roasted louse. Mwahahah.

Olive oil I've got a big jug of as well... on sale... bought for my soap project, but could do... maybe for round two though since we've all already been dosed.

What's this about peppermint and orange? I've never heard of either... pep oil and water kind of spray or is a particular kind? Orange oil... or is it a store bought spray?

THANK YOU ALL for all these great ideas!
