Young chickens lay smaller eggs to begin with. And as they get older too.
My LH lays a Xlg egg. And yes they have a small build. She’s now going on 4yrs. Her eggs have dropped a bit in size. She still lays 6 eggs a week.
All things considered I think she’s doing great. Give your young ones a chance to practice laying eggs ... that’s what they’re doing. ;)

I have had the same experience with mine. XL eggs eventually. They started out on the smaller size. Small hens that lay large eggs. That’s the leghorn.

When Judy was about 1yr old she was attacked by a hawk. The photo above is one year later.
She was naked for 2 winters!
She’s a tuff one. Treating her wounds created a bond between us.
She’s my best girl.

My Leghorns have been laying for a couple of weeks now. Their eggs are quite small, and compared to my other chickens they are smaller hens too. The eggs are too small for me to sell, so I am using them in the house. I thought the eggs would get bigger, but so far they are not. I hope I am not stuck with tiny eggs forever from them. The idea was to bring white eggs into the mix for my egg business. So far it's not working! :idunno They are nice girls and becoming very friendly with me (smart chickens, they know where the food comes from!) so I shouldn't complain.
