How does your new rooster stack up? Does he meet the criteria?
Well, here is the run down on Mr. Bob-
at 7 1/2 weeks he started crowing., soon after he would heard the chicks (not the older ones) to where ever he wanted them to be, in the coop, in the corner.....
If anything disturbs him like, a squirrel, the outside light on when I take the dog out at 1 a.m., noises in the brush, people up by the house he doesn't know, my husband walking by the "Coop Zone" He CROWS!!!!!

As you can see, in the pic #1 I am on the porch and the coop is down the slop, away from the house.

We have fencing so the dogs cant go down and get on the coop fence. [ Our old dog Max never did, he could walk all the way around the chicken run and didnt jump up on the fence. ] Ziva, does, she wants to be in with them{ not eat them} but just go in there.
So, Mr. Bob in my view is a lot like a watch dog, he barks. He protects the hens

He will try and ??? flap at you, jump on your leg.

But all Roosters I have had do that. I have a small yellow kids rake, I take it in the run with me and just let Mr. Bob know how close is to close.

I do herd him into the coop/shut to door/ and pick him up. Then I walk around the run with him until he settles down.

I have had roosters in the past that when picked up, their comb turns all black cuz they are so mad. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/rooster-had-a-heart-atack.906181/ This rooster - in the link- I just loved, but ,,,well read the link :hit

Buff Rooster #2 did great until you turned your back and ZAMM'O he would nail ya - I didnt keep him long

But so far Mr. Bob I think is doing his job, what he is wired to do.

In the last pick, he is out there now having a great dust bath.

I Like him
