was there a view? All I could see was those awesome containers. I love those garden containers... super clean looking!

do you have to line them or do they just keep the moisture ? I guess with the cold in my area I would be better to put a liner so that I can drain it... ice is not my friend when it comes to concrete.

do you fill them with soil all the way to the ground or put a 'filler' of some kind to have just the top as soil ?

sooooo many questions but the truth is my first question is 'How do you keep the girls out of them?' but I think you keep your babies safe in a run and not let them run in the garden!

At one point in time, 8 or 9 years ago I started with ? I think 9 raised beds like the one in the pic, across all of this space that we now have concrete block beds. I put down enough garden compost/soil we had brought in and one wheelbarrow at a time we filled all of the beds. I put a layer of woodchips on the top of all the beds. They were not lined. We live on a sandy hillside, I dont have good dirt, when I watered the beds all of the water would soak through and drain. Then getting down on the ground was so killing my knees (I have baker cysts) I would end up with swelling for a month.
So in 2017 we built the first block bed
and left the asparagus in the wood box bed.

and this last year, I used my old potato boxes for squash, those I did line due to the slope of the ground all of the water would have run out. these photo's are all from last year.
So we needed more growing space, we rebuilt the asparagus bed,

I got to work and raked back all of the gravel

we got a truck load of garden soil and
on 3-1 we went to work- and on 3-6 we were done - we filled and then stacked block , filled, then stack

and Ta-Da you can put PCV in the block holes and cove the bed with plastic if it gets to cold.

I have to do some thinning when some of this gest bigger- but starting close and moving toward the truck- 3 different brussels sprouts; carrots; green cabbage; red cabbage; marigold starts to be moved; kale; radish; turnips; carrots; red romaine and green romaine, cilantro, and lots of bunching onion


And, you cant see it, but the purple asparagus is coming up, the green hasn't yet
then in the older be- more carrots; beets; a nice salad mix; room for the plants that need thinned; garlicgarlicgarlic; and blue berries

And last year I made a squash bed for summer squash down by the coop


And that is the vegetable gardening, hahahaha

All your gardening posts had me riveted, I read them 3 times.

The first time I was just stunned, slack-jawed, and in awe, the 2nd time I was just EXHAUSTED by all the work you did.

The 3rd time I figured out how I might fix some of the problems I have in MY garden.

I'll be exhausted again soon

I am NOT going to show my spouse, he is going to go get me 2 pallets of cubes and then tell me to do it all while he goes to work. I work from home 35hrs a week, have the animals, all the chores, including picking up after him, and the garden, but he keeps coming home to tell me I could do more because 'I am home all day'

I can't keep up with all of you but I love trailing after you like a pesky little sister.
