All the starts in my green house are getting too big for their britches, I mean, pots! And they're one-quart pots.My poor cucumber seedlings need to get outside and planted in their prepared raised beds but with lows around 2-4°Celsius they will just have to wait a few more days.
I don't even have a green house and just keep the pots in my kitchen or, as they get too big for the window sill, in my living room. All the starts in my green house are getting too big for their britches, I mean, pots! And they're one-quart pots.
So do I. The strong winds will bend them off or even tear them up.start hardening plants off about this time of May, but I'm leaving it for about another week.
I like this ideaWhen I harden them off, I put them outside in XL dog crates. I drape the crates with white/light colored bed sheets, and hold those in place with clothes pins. I start off with the sheet on day and night for a couple of days. Then I take the sheet off for a few hours during the day. Then longer, and finally leave it off.
The sheet softens the harsh sunshine and also protects them from wind. The crate protects the plants from the critters that want to eat them and gives me something to drape the sheet over.
