Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

My one chick who hatched got attacked by a big chicken and I used the magic blue horse antibiotic spray on her and separated her and her mom for a month and she lived (only to drown two weeks later!). But the blue spray is great - you can use it on horses, dogs, cats, pigs, and chickens and it doesn't hurt their eyes.

I buy it at Tractor Supply. I will find it in the barn and post it.
Good luck

@TeaChick First, I wouldn't use antibiotics on them, but I'm sure you're aware of the risk with unprescribed antibiotics.

Then to the helpful part. This is Flappy when he was injured.

Maybe a week in:

After premature re-integration:

Flappy a couple weeks after being re-integrated:

Flappy last week:

What we did was that we first rinsed the wound with a mild Betadine solution (½ cup of water and 10-20 drops Betadine from the green bottle). Then we applied Vetericyn or Vetramil (a honey and herb based veterinary wound care product). We kept rinsing the wound daily with Betadin solution and applying either the Vetericyn or the Vetramil on the wound, alternating between the two. Just one of them would have worked just fine too, but I think the Vetramil assists in healing better, while the Vetramil keeps it a bit moister. After about a week, we moved him back out, only to return him later that day because it had been pecked open again. A week from that we moved him back out for good. As you can see in the last picture, you can't even see the wound anymore.

Thanks, @vehve ! Yes, I understand the possible problems with antibiotics; we have unbelievable levels of bugs, especially this time of year, and they're (as I'm sure you know) amazingly effective carriers of infection. Hence, the antibiotics. Otherwise, we avoid using them and only keep them on hand for major emergencies. For instance, if this had happened a couple of months ago, we wouldn't even give them antibiotics b/c there weren't really any bugs around, just bringing them inside would have been enough.
I've got DH on the Vetericyn procurement and I'll add Vetramil to his online shopping list.

I'm glad Flappy did so well! All these stories really give me hope for my two little girls that I didn't have.

TO EVERYONE:
Before I started reading on here last night, I told my DD that I wasn't holding my breath for the one with the really bad wound to make it through the night. Thanks to everyone for all the encouragement!!!

I cacan't help photo bombing every thread I'm on.

Thanks! They are adorable. Had to break up the two moms for a moment this morning. They were running off another bird then they momentarily forgot they were teammates and went after eachother.

My hubby and I picked them up talked them down a bit, put them back together with the chicks and they have beenfine since. I can see the coop from where I sit and I am watching them out in the run with the babies. So cute. We have two runs and they have been taking the babies to which ever one has less birds in it. Pretty smart for pea brains.

Oh, wow! I hate it when that happens (when two chickens forget they're friends and start fighting each other). Glad you got them fixed back up together!
That is smart!!

Okay, so now I'm just procrastinating about my school work. Guess I better get going on it. I'm working on an assignment that was due Monday and I haven't even started on stuff that's due tomorrow and next Monday.

Thank God for coffee (and other sources of caffeine).
