Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

totally depends where you go.... for a few years we went to the northern edge of Bavaria every spring, and they were only a few weeks ahead of Alaska... plant wise etc.

The poem I was quoting is in a bit of dialect, not full High German, so it could have been written in Northern Bavaria... they talk normal-ish there

not like mid to south Bavaria

I think my accent is closest to the Bavarian one... some Austrian influence too in my pronunciation. But mostly it sounds like immigrant-German. I can make myself understood though. I had a discussion about chicken coop construction in German last summer with our neighbor's guests. That was interesting. I think the guy actually got what I was trying to say.

Once when my kids were little, I had them play with some little Bavarian speaking kids.....

they had VERY few words in common

I think things like "please come here" were the same in both languages.....

German isn't the easiest of languages otherwise either. I understand it well, and I can keep up during a conversation most of the time, but producing grammatically correct text is nearly impossible to me. Too many rules, and I don't have an ear for the language.

but all of the rules make sense... and are logical.

And pronunciation, if you are speaking High German, follows perfect rules and is very easy.

As to grammar.... I hate grammar, in all languages... I would get all of the words in the correct locations, and then swallow all endings... so it isn't as obvious that I can't remember the gender for any of the words.

so I don't say "die, der, das" I say d

works great.... makes me just sound a bit more dialect-ish

English just comes naturally to me. I studied German for ten years, and it's still my weakest language. English I've only studied for the equivalent of a couple of weeks, but since most of the entertainment and information I consume is in English, it was very easy for me to learn the language.

O weh! O weh!
Nun kommt er gar mit Schnee
und schneit mir in den Blütenbaum,
in all den Frühlingswiegentraum!
Ganz greulich ist´s, man glaubt es kaum:
Heut Frost und gestern Hitze,
heut Reif und morgen Blitze,
das sind so seine Witze!
O weh! O weh! Nun kommt er gar mit Schnee!

I was gonna translate.... but I gotta take a shower... it is funny though
