Sitting with a cup of coffee. (coffee lovers)

I might add for my taste it is not as dark as I like.. I have 2 clients that roast and bring in some for me.. It is a bit earthy with some under tonnes of, hmmm let me think? Agh, depending on how you roast? They do a medium roast.. I will take it & next time, grind like powder & boil, boil, boil.. Like Turkish coffee.. I know what you are thinking.. However, I do want to try it this way at least once.. Did you dark roast?? 30 seconds to 1 minute difference, for the way our friends roast t..
Ha! We were at a party, we live by A.S.U. This dude used a pop corn popper!! He was not paying attention to the roast, just the girls.. Was fun to watch! We are working on getting them a flock...
I have roasted in a popcorn popper. It takes about 4 minutes to roast a batch, but you cannot roast a lot of beans in a pop corn popper. The Gene cafe at the temperature setting I am using takes about 16 minutes.

Yes, the darker the roast, the more the sugar flavors come out. lighter roasts are usually more fruity or citrus tasting. This roast is not very dark because the oils are not coming out of the beans yet. Sweet Marias will let you know how dark you can roast the beans. Not many coffee beans can take an espresso roast.

Sumatra Mandheling has earthy flavors and sometimes tastes smokey. I like it but it is not my favorite.

@TeaChick Thanks! The dentist went well. The no coffee did not! had a caffeine headache by the time I got back but couldn't have anything hot yet with my mouth frozen, but dark chocolate Ghiradelli chips made a good caffeine remedy. For medicinal purposes yo know.

I don't think I ever told you how easy it is to maintain a koi pond. Once you get it going it's not bad. The bigger the better, the deeper the better. Bigger and deeper actually help to maintain the water quality along with the plants and deeper gives the fish a place to go out of the reach of predators ( ie: coons.) When I had my big one it was 6 x12x4ft deep and I built a 3 1/2 foot high waterfall. I emptied out 10-20% of the water each month. (More in August due to the heat) and checked ph 1x per week. As long as I kept up with it it was easy. If you let it go it can become troublesome but usually only takes a day to clean up. There are so many good books out there if you decide to build one. It can get pricey though. Good luck if you build one!
Good Luck with the Turkeys!!!!!

OK Alaskan, What is a button quail, or how big is a button quail? Pictures need posted if you get some of course!

I have chocolate for medicinal purposes daily.
wink.png
It keeps me off of antidepressants. lol
DH isn't going to "let" me (bit off more than I can chew by) getting into fish as well as birds.

Thanks!!!

Horrid! Everyone going to the dentist! Maybe this is Dentist Month?

Me, I wanna coffee tasting at ron's house, Sounds good to me!!! I keep wondering about those new beans you mentioned, that are supposed to have citrus tones or whatever. I wonder if I would be able to taste all of the subtle flavors. Hummmmmm. Speaking of citrus and coffee (kind of anyway), Starbuck's used to have a "Mocha Valencia"; we make a French Press coffee version. We use Valencia orange peel to make a simple orange syrup (lots of peel makes the syrup very tasty), and we mix baking cocoa (powder) into the syrup when it's warmed (watch out for lumps), and then mix the hot coffee into that. Mmmm

As to button quail, I am not good at posting internet pictures...but for a size idea... A pair can be housed in a 50 gallon aquarium! One guy has a pair in his coffee table! Very interesting!!!

Anyway, just think tiny! The big drawback for me, is that they do not live long, an egg laying female lives maybe two years. They also come in a large number of colors and patterns. Please don't tease me; DH is being so nice to let me try to expand my poultry to turkeys (since we can eat them), but button quail are probably out of the question.

I have 4 ducklings hatched and fluffed, two JUST now hatched, one partly unzipped, and a few more eggs that should hatch now-ish. (Within four days) unfortunately, I think I have a stink bomb in the incubator, but I just can't figure out which one. My nose and eyes are faulty with age,
hu.gif
This is one of the reasons why God developed the idea of having voles/minions/etc.

The new beans were delivered yesterday and I will roast some tonight.

It will keep my mind off of the Dentist Visit....

Hope your dentist visit went well!

About peeling eggs, I've found that it doesn't matter how old the eggs are as much as how they're cooled. I've boiled fresh eggs several times in the past few months. This week is the first time I've really had trouble peeling them. I didn't cool them quickly in water (I ran a little cool water over them and then stuck them in the fridge; the shell and membrane were bonded to the egg like I'd super glued them.

) Usually, I run cold water in the pan and add ice, trying to cool them quickly.

Evening everyone!!!
Storms gone and we're still here!
While I was out on the porch watching the hail, I turned my head and there was a lone little hummingbird not more than a foot away, sitting atop my feedbin seeking shelter from the storm. It tried flying away too soon only to scoot right back to it's perch where it stayed til the hail stopped, then with a little squeak like "see ya!" and it was gone.
Bit of damage from hail but nothing the crops can't recover from. My poor Swiss Chard looks more like Swiss Cheese
roll.png
but the girls don't mind the holes at all. Yum.

Got into the high 60's today with a good breeze and it was heaven!!!

a wonderful cool evening on the porch watching the chooks enjoying themselves chasing grasshoppers. Low 50's/high 40's tonight. Great sleeping weather.

Have a blessed evening everyone!!!

Glad Arthur is gone!!! Hope you still have all your stuff and not too much cleaning up to do.
I have had a few hummingbird feeders over the past ten years. When I used to sit on the porch talking on the phone, they could come to feed and if there was more than one of them they would flit around chittering with each other!!! =D I miss that. I had a feeder set up in a tree a few years later. There was one female hummingbird who was extremely territorial about the feeder; I even put up two feeders, she got territorial about both of them. I "named" her "Queenie".
I need some caffeine deprivation. ;-)
You have a blessed evening too! =D

Glad you are safe. We tucked everyone in early on threat of thunderstorms but they are dancing around us. We don't need the storm but I sure would like the rain.

Hope all had good dentist visits. I also need to schedule one but have been dragging my feet. Not my favorite past time.

I am picking up hatching eggs on the 18th. Anyone else setting on/near that date? Surely Alaskan has something going in that we could hatch along together!
fl.gif
I've got some set now that are due to hatch out on the 20th.
I might set some more around that time...depends on my friend's turkeys and what's going on with my building projects.

Alaskan,

I am setting eggs on the 18th. Would you please hatch along with me? (Slight arm twist)

like the arm twist is necessary...

The new coffee beans were delivered on Monday, and I roasted them last night.

The were roasted in my coffee roaster.

They were roasted to full city(read the label to see what flavors I get there)

Fresh beans bubble a bit when water is first added.

Brewing in the Chemex brewer. Water was heated to 195 in the kettle.

It Tastes like very good coffee. I might taste a bit of citrus rind?

Are you filtering that through paper?

lau.gif
liquid sanity!!!
DS is

@ the green person; first time he's seen it.

I ran out of milk for my coffee - drinking this one black.
caf.gif

Extra sugar/honey in that case.
We keep milk and half & half in the house; sometimes we have heavy whipping cream. No shortage of dairy products in this house...Hmmmm Currently, we have Reddi-Whip.
droolin.gif

i cleaned my chicken coop out a few days ago and put the dirty shavings in the wheel barrow and put the wrong food in there feeder so i had to dump that in the wheel barrow as well and then it rained and then got really hot now wheel barrow smells terrible!

Mmmmmm Smelly wheel barrow. I don't envy you!!!
Hope it all comes out of the wheel barrow!

Sure thing! Though....uh, if you are setting chicken eggs on the 18th, I should put the quail eggs in on the 21st??? So, your hatch date is... Whenish? I will figure it out and make a thread!!
big_smile.png

Ron, totally
droolin.gif
over your coffee setup

Sourman, you mean you don't drink your coffee black? It is not good to dilute the yummy caffeine!
wink.png

Milk or cream actually helps to chemically stabilize the coffee.
wink.png

Love that God is in charge of the birds, Totally! But it's so hard not to take responsibility when one of my chickens dies.... He gives us those moments to enjoy His creation!! Wish we could of been there to enjoy that moment..
goodpost.gif

It is a hit when one of the girls get a grasshopper.. Football chicken style..
Never thought of it this way, but you're totally right!!! Same thing with a toad or a piece of peanut butter sandwich made of a tortilla.
Oh, and when my Cochin Bantams were little, I dangled a string of spaghetti through the top of the brooder and one would snatch it and run, then they'd all be running back and forth with a piece of pasta in their beaks thinking the rest of them were running after them, but they were all just running away from each other. lol

Almost put some turkey eggs in with the chicken eggs I have set to hatch on the 20th....might still.....IDK.
Snoodle's acting weird. Her vent smells a bit stinky and she's spending a lot of time under the shed. I thought she was trying to go broody, but IDK anymore; I'm not sure she's even laying. IDK what she's doing, or not doing. I gave her one of her own eggs out of the incubator yesterday (it's hot enough outside to incubate eggs w/o heat
roll.png
, so I wasn't worried about it getting too cold. Anyway, I forgot to get it last night b/c she (Snoodle) was acting funny, so it was out there all night...but my incubator clicked off in the middle of the night so the low outside was warmer than the inside of my incubator this morning...
tongue.gif
IDK what she's doing.
th.gif
I give up. I've been mixing some whey into some scratch grains and adding a little water and setting her inside a sideways cardboard box so she can eat in peace. Hopefully she starts feeling better.

Oh, I candled the eggs in my 'bator on Sunday night (really it was super early on Monday morning; I forgot on Sunday night and then DS woke me up, so I candled them. One of Snoodle's was a clear, all 8 of the Comet eggs have veins. =D 11 developing right along.

Making coffee tomorrow morning. Been having honey and coconut oil in my coffee plus a little half & half. I'd been having sugar and half & half. Hope I'm getting healthier!!!

Okay. I'll join. =)

I'm on a computer, but even on my phone, the way I quote several ppl in the same reply is to touch quote and type my response, then I enter down a few lines and scroll back up to read and just touch quote on the next entry I want to answer, type more, repeat; when I've answered what I want to on that page, I touch (or click on my computer) submit (or whatever it is on the mobile site).

I just read about putting coconut oil and organic butter in coffee; the guys of "Versatile Health" call it Bulletproof Coffee. I'll see if I can find a link for it and edit it in here.

Here you go:
http://versatilehealth.com/bulletproof-coffee/
and I think it should even be click-y. =)
